decertified, but Cardinal Law gets to honor the Pope and preside over a beautiful church. In most states, teachers are required to report abuse of children. In most states, it is now a crime for principals not to report teachers who abuse children. Yet, Cardinal Law, who among his other duties, was in charge of the Boston Catholic Schools, is free as a bird despite his active role in hiding abusing priests. What Law did to the children of Boston is worse than those priests. After all they could only abuse so many children. Law literally aided and abetted the abuse of thousands of kids (even Geighan, who was by far the most prolific, only managed to abuse a bit over a hundred). Of all the things where this Pope was wrong, this was the worst. I hope it was simply a matter of old age catching up with him and he had no idea what was going on here. But somehow I doubt that.
The kids of Boston deserved better than seeing Law honoring the Pope. They deserved to see Law in a jail cell or at least unemployed and penniless. Lives were ruined, a new cycle of abuse likely begun. Even worse, from the Catholic standpoint, souls were corrupted. They deserved better. I am glad to read that advocates are flying to Rome to protest. I wish them well.
