DNC State Grants Just the Beginning
by Susie Turnbull

Wed Apr 13th, 2005 at 10:38:57 EST

"As you read yesterday, Gov. Dean has announced four state grants to ND, NC, WV, and MO. We want everyone to understand - this is just the beginning! Every state party is scheduled to meet between now and mid-July with our DNC team to review the state party operations. Promises made are being kept! We promised to have a fifty state strategy and to SHOW UP! and we are doing just that. We promised to work with state parties to build a grassroots democratic party -- we are doing just that! We promised to stand up and speak out -- we are doing that, too! Remember -- it is just the beginning! We are listening! "

SNIP.."My plan is to try to keep you up to date on behalf of Gov. Dean and the other officers to make sure people feel connected to the DNC.
We met with the State Chairs and Vice Chairs last week in Little Rock and made clear that what we are looking for with our state parties is a true partnership. We do have expectations that the DNC and state parties will be open and welcoming. We want to make certain that there is an emphasis on getting people involved 365 days a year for the entire four year cycle.

Change isn't always easy. As I have been told repeatedly in the last few weeks -- give us some time....."

How were the first 4 states chosen?

* These states were in critical condition (4.00 / 6)

"North Dakota had only a part-time Executive Director and no staff. While we have had success electing Democrats, there is little infrastructure in ND. The other states have varying degrees of organization and needed immediate help."

change it to something that would fit the DNC) because it is a good motivator for people. A couple people already mentioned that over in the thread.

edit to add - it has made it to the Recommended List now.

2. New Jersey is obvious - Governor Election in 2005
And after the fallout of the McGreevey incident the democrats could be vulnerable. However, I think Jon Corzine is a strong choice for governor and the man has his own source of income to pay for the election. Plus after he wins, he can appoint his own successor to his senate seat!! I actually like that idea because right now there doesn't seem to be any strong candidates to run for US Senate in NJ, but elevating one in 2005 to replace Corzine would be a great boost for future elections. And yes, Repukes have a couple of strong candidates who have run statewide offices with Schundler, Frank and Forrestoer.

4. Working on the website changes.
Someone wanted less requests for money, more action... Her reply.

"The DNC is working to make our website not only more interactive, but more substantive. I think you will find less requests for money and more regular information in the months ahead."

Actually there have not been that many requests for money. Not really. And it is hard to work miracles overnight.
