If he turns out to be the doctrinaire that he appears to be....turning his back on South America and the hopes of the desperate there could result in a reevaluation by the followers.

... though people in Latin America are leaving the RC church in droves, many are gravitating to what are variously described in the media as "Pentecostal", "charismatic" or "fundamentalist" sects.

Hard to say, at this point whether this is an improvement or not. My hunch is "not".

8. I wish followers here (zombie brigade) would have as much sense
as the Latin Americans - we are starting to look like a bunch of morons to many in the world. Stupid Bush and his mindless zombies - who cares if Catholics leave the church - the fundies are the real killers.
