Ameritrade loses 200,000 Client Files
This is turning into a nightmare! More personal data lost!

snip:

Leading online discount broker Ameritrade Holding Corp. said Tuesday it has informed about 200,000 current and former customers that a backup computer tape containing their personal information has been lost.

Information on the tape was for people nationwide who may have been Ameritrade customers from 2000-2003, she said. The data was different for each client and may have included their
Social Security numbers, among other information, Kush said.

"We are very confident that no harm has been done to any clients, to their accounts, to their information," Kush said.

Kush said Ameritrade did not lose the information, but rather, a third party vendor did.

This makes the loss of US Citizens personal data at approximately
2 million since February

:grr:

1. How can they say this?
"We are very confident that no harm has been done to any clients, to their accounts, to their information," Kush said.

On what do they base this statement?

2. I am starting to see...
A distinct lack of coincidence now. Something is up. 2 million of the same types of crimes kinda bites randomness in the ass.

3. We were discussing this tonight
I was with people who said that the new bankruptcy reform bill should make credit card interest, etc go down because they can't justify their rates anymore.

I told them they were wrong. That cc companies would just claim that they were losing so much because of fraud from identity theft and that all the new leaks of info we're hearing about is set up to make us go along with feeling sorry for those poor cc companies who are losing so much money from fraud.

Poor widdle things. (CC companies that is)

4. I wonder if Ameritrade's data backups are stored by Sungard?
You know, the BIG data storage firm that was just purchased by the Carlyle Group?
