One in every 138...

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050425/ap_on_re_us/prison_population

Excerpt:

While the U.S. crime rate has fallen over the past decade, the number of people in prison and jail is outpacing the number of inmates released, the government reports.

The population of the nation's prisons and jails has grown by about 900 inmates each week between mid-2003 and mid-2004, according to figures released Sunday by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. By last June 30 the system held 2.1 million people, or one in every 138 U.S. residents.

4. Yup - I was in an accident in Sept. '02.
It was caused by a guy who (while driving on cocaine, without a license or insurance, in his girlfriend's car) crossed between jersey barriers in an emergency vehicle only slot and killed the guy in a car in front of me and wiped out my car.

He spent less time in prison for his crimes than Martha Stewart did - and it took 2 1/2 years for the insurnace carriers to sort it all out.

Makes you wonder.

5. I can think of a few others that should be in jail right now.
Their current location is the White House.

* belongs in the Hage, not the Oval Office.
