Does anyone know how to find out what type of email server a person has and who is the provider of the email service? Mainly if it is a HTTP server.

1. Examine the header data

Every e mail has a header attached. How to access it is a function of your particular e-mail app.

http://www.dnsstuff.com
use the bottom test in the middle column to get the email servers

then goto a command prompt and run:
telnet <mailserver.domain.com> 25

that should tell you the kind of server

3. it can't be an HTTP server

it has to be either POP3/IMAP or SMTP to be a mail server. Even web-mail relies on POP3/IMAP protocol and SMTP protocol.
