In other words, the Senate is not supposed to bend over and approve each and every asshole Pretzelboy nominates for a judgeship.

It's called "balance of power". The GOP is just completely wrong on this.

2. They're Federalists. They're against *anything* that constrains
the power of the Executive Branch. Well- as long as it's a Republican Executive Branch, of course.
