27. It's a Saudi thing

I went with a group of nurses to work through a US agency in Saudi Arabia for 3 years (minimum contract time). What a freaking bizarre experience!!! It's 110 degrees and we're covered from top to bottom almost, so we don't offend Arabs when we left our compound. Young children threw stones at us and called us names and laughed at us.And that was the least of it!!After a couple of years, some of the townspeople got to know us and our guide who they'd ALWAYS hold hands with and kiss. It's a sign of respect, they told us. Anyway, after 2 1/2 years, we were invited to dinner at a local physician's estate who worked with us. Alot of male kissing and hand holding. After a LONG dinner he took us to a "special event" that he said we would enjoy. I'm thinking a concert, dance, club etc. Oh No!!! He took us to CHOP CHOP SQUARE to watch beheadings!!!No shit!! It was like a carnival with people selling food, drinks etc. Our guide told us it would be disrespectful to leave and we had to stay until the end. So, another nutse and I excused ourselves, went to the bathroom and left. I only had 6 months left but I never left the compound again. What's weird is that the other 6 nurses with us enjoyed themselves and went back 3 more times!!!
