CAFE Standards- High Gas $? Blame Bill- everything changed 9/11/01

In the near term, we will continue to encourage oil-producing nations to maximize their production.

Here at home, we'll protect consumers. There will be no price gouging at gas pumps in America.

We must address the root causes that are driving up gas prices.

In the past decade, America's energy consumption has been growing about 40 times faster than our energy production. That means we're relying more on energy produced abroad.

To reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy, we must take four key steps.

First, we must better use technology to become better conservers of energy.

And secondly, we must find innovative and environmentally sensitive ways to make the most of our existing energy resources, including oil, natural gas, coal and safe, clean nuclear power.".....

Nuclear power?????? (As a former Seabrook Clamsheller, all i can say is never!)

But it's interesting to note that it was ALL so 'different' pre- 9/11

I keep re-hearing an old NPR interview everytime i try to see past the newest biggest SUV 'just out'- and find myself paying well over $2.00 gal. for the cheapest gas in my rural community-

so i went back and searched, and found THE interview, where the concept of having 'fuel efficent' cars was dissed by the current administration, and more than that 'high' gas prices were blamed on the lack of Clinton's pushing production-

<snip>
GWEN IFILL: Myron Ebell, what do you love about it? What do you hate about it?

MYRON EBELL: Well, we don't like all the taxpayer money that's going to special payments for every conceivable industry. I mean, there's something in there for clean coal but there's also something in there for renewable energy. There's tax incentives for this and pay-offs for that. All that stuff is beside the point. What we like about it is it still retains a good part of the core of President Bush's energy plan, which was designed to reverse the anti-energy policies of the Clinton-Gore years, which have led us to have lower energy production, supply bottlenecks and higher prices. We think that some of the key elements in this bill, plus some of the other regulatory actions that President Bush is taking, will remove the bottlenecks in the supply system and return affordable energy to American consumers. We also particularly like the fact that the higher CAFE standards, the higher auto fuel efficiency standards were defeated by the House this evening. That's very important.

Anti-energy policies? What about all of the McMansions being built in rural areas where public transportation is non-existant. Where the last train came through town 30+ yrs ago, and the nearest hospital or grocery store is 30 minutes away???-

He doesn't 'feel my pain'- he doesn't feel any 'average' americans pain- money is getting tighter and tighter, and everything is costing more- feels like the Reagan years all over economically- forget mention of the 'terra' we live with, the lies, wars, threats, Patriot act, depression, and the death and blood on our hands and soil-

Easy to blame everything on Clinton- but the proof is out there- he didn't care- he doesn't care-
