I am an Oppressed Christian
I define being a Christian as someone who follows the words of Jesus. I am not a 'Bibilian'; someone who thinks they know and understand all of the thousand year old bible stories.

The few words of Jesus, as written, is the only part of the bible that I do know and understand, yet, when I find myself professing his words, I find great oppression, especially from the Bibilians.

When I say: "War never has been the answer" the Bibilians go anti-Christ on me.

When I say: "Love thy neighbor", again they go anti-Christ.

Just about any time I stand with Jesus' words and wisdom I am oppressed by those not willing to accept him and his wisdom. Go ahead and oppress me some more, I am used to it, and, I expect it, just like he said I should.

3. Wherever two or more Christians are gathered, not organized religion's
churches, that's where it's at. Trying to live like that will get you oppressed by the church going public and The War President's legions.

4. When Jesus said "Follow Me," he meant it.
All the way to the cross.

As a clergy friend of mine often says, "Goddammit, don't you realize that IF you actually follow Jesus, PEOPLE WILL WANT TO KILL YOU???"

That, my friend, is what it means "to pick up YOUR cross."

So than that means I am doing it right? Seriously thanks for the post I needed that. I still feel like I am out numbered but at least that puts it into perspective.

17. Yup - that is EXACTLY what it means.
Check out Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "The Cost of Discipleship"

His best sentence sums it all up: "When Christ bids a man to follow him, he bids him to come and die."

Considering Bonhoeffer died in a Nazi prison, I'd say he lived his life exactly as he preached it.

7. Heathens and heretics
Yup. I know a lot of pagans who are scared to death of this administration and the environment they are quite deliberately fostering.

It's almost as bad as being an semi-agnostic pantheist humanist! :D

I bet it would be packed every Sunday! It is a sad state of affairs when going church is like going to war!

11. Love is only for people who believe exactly what you do
And if god was not pro-war, why is there so much of it?

You need a few years with Rev. Moon or Dr. Dobson. They'll straighten you out. Looks like we finally got a pope with balls too. Of course, he's a papist heretic, just like Moon is a gook blasphemer, but we'll get around to them after we get rid of all you unbelievers.

12. Sorry, ain't buying it..
Throughout history it's the Christians who have done the opressing not the other way around. If you are Christian and think you are being opressed by your own kind, then quit whining and find another church or start your own damn religion. You want to talk opression try being Black, Jewish, Muslim or Native American.

14. It's not a contest, dude.
The truth is, that many people experience oppression in a variety of ways. The fact that you refer to these Fristians as "your own kind" simply shows how much work we Christians have to do to educate the rest of DU about religious intolerance.

24. Um... sorry if I seem intolerant
but I get tired of certain "Christians" trying to force their views on everyone else, especially the view that if I don't "accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior" I'm going to hell. That's religion through intimidation, salvation through fear is about as anti-religious as you can get..

13. Does your job require you to be amoral?
In your paid work, are you asked to be christian (the real thing?).
Would your employer tolerate jesus in your organization, (provided he
was able to do a job there)?

22. No, I am kinda retired
I have had many a boss, however, and I found the best of those to be true followers of Jesus. But there haven't been many.

My point in this was to use the words heard recently from the 'Holy-rollers' to show them the true meaning of the use of their words: Oppressed Christian.

They are not oppressed by anyone I know, but the folks who really try to follow Jesus, or any other likewise beliefs, are truly oppressed.

Those who believe in Peace, brotherly love, fairness, justice, and, kindness, and are forward thinking, are harassed, ridiculed, and ignored by the hypo-christians who sell their beliefs to the highest bidding church.

It is mainly through acts that one is known, not just by words. Those who act consistently by living up to Jesus' words in all situations, are often oppressed.

Sadly, we are oppressed mainly by those who claim to be Christian, and are known by their works to be hypocrites.

23. Ok I guess I misunderstood a little bit
but my statement still stands, why stay a Christian if you feel you are being opressed? There's lots of religions out there, probably many that follow the path you choose for yourself, get some new friends ;)

15. I, as a Christian,
despise some of the holier-than-thou attitudes that a lot supposed Christians have. Jesus was accepting of everyone. The point of being a Christian is to try to be Christ-like. Unfortunately, that is not the case with many. A lot of people skew what being a Christian is really about.
