Ponder free thought
Sometimes it hits me how our thought is manipulated - by society, by those who seek to maniplate thought, government, religion, and advertising, advertising, adverting.

How captive the human mind is. Forced to live in a box, to contort this way and that. So bound. So held back.

What exists is the best there can be, we are told. Contemplation outside these parameters is either a sickness or a crime or both.

Conform, from all sides, they say, conform.

What would a species of free thinking (therefore free), capable individuals decide to do? As a speices?

Hunger, poverty, opression, greed, inequality - gone, perhaps.

Then what?

Please think for me.

1. I hate to say it, but such a society might not last long.
Free thinkers have a hell of a time moving in the same general direction, since not only do they march to their own drummer, but they rarely have the same compass, either.

Being a follower is not necessarily a bad thing, if you have a mind to understand what you're following and choose your pole stars carefully.

I'd be happy with a society of the educated follower.

following an educated well-meaning leader.

Interesting concept: Educated free thinkers following educated free thinking leaders.

4. That would be very interesting, and very fun to watch.
We've come close a couple times, then slipped back into the muck.

6. Flack
What is the meaning of elephant? Why did the soap consider taking a loan? The drapes keep mocking the sky for some unknown reason. Have you read the granite?

Free thought is not what advances us. Focused thought brought about by generations of learning and understanding is what advances us. Totally unconstricted freethought is chaotic. It leads nowhere and everywhere.

It may seem that as we advance our focus becomes more restricted. Confined by the limits we discover with each advance. But we keep discovering more layers to this puzzle called life. Eventually one day we may peel back the final layer and understand things in a way that may give some sense of completeness. But that day is not yet here and the structure and limits guiding our thoughts are still productive and have meaning.

I respectfully say, you seem to be digging while I believe I am climbing..

I loved that first paragraph, btw.
