Note conservative criticisms of Laura's "jokes" here

Let's note of those on the right who are brave enough to tell the truth about Laura's joke routine, which totally blew her carefully crafted image of a modest, earnest, "perfect" wife.

Michael Savage, for starters.

Anyone else on talk radio complaining?

I saw NOTHING on freerepublic yesterday. And you know that if Hillary had talked about going with Tipper and putting dollar bills in the underwear of male strippers, they'd be frothing at the mouth.

5. Wow! He might be risking his career

with comments like that. Just gave them ammunition to take him from the mainstream to the edge of fringe.

I've listened to him exactly...ONCE. It was during the campaign, but prior to the first primary/caucus and Dean was still in the lead. I stumbled on to him one day looking for something other than hate radio (which is all we have available here, besides Moody Bible Institute and The Fish :eyes: ). Anyway...

The whole time, he was going off on a raging tangent making a huge deal of Dean's wife not being with him on the campaign trail. According to him, it's disrespectful and she's a horrid woman to have a career. You see, we're actually ELECTING not just one person but TWO...the Husband and the WIFE to fill the office of POTUS. Then he went on speculating how she's going to handle State dinners and other responsibilities of living in the WH.

I lasted about 3 minutes and 6 seconds; then I completely turned off the radio in disgust.

3. There's a lot of comment on it on FR.

I just did a search this morning for "Laura" and several threads came up. One had over 1200 replies, one had over 500. I think the 1200 one was more generally gushy about how wonderful she is, although there were some people voicing surprise/disapproval of some of her jokes. The 500 comment thread got more into Savage's negative comments. It was fun reading, but you still have to wade through plenty of unquestioning adoration.

4. Any woman who opens her mouth to speak

even when she's simply reciting the words men have written, opens herself to criticism of her face, her body, her clothing, her age, her accent, her speaking style, and of the man's words as though she had written them, herself.

Right wingers are the most heavily invested in patriarchy (although there's plenty on the left, as evidenced by how cavalierly leftist men would eliminate a woman's right to her own body), so of course they'd be the first to, er, Savage any First Lady who stood up and spoke.

My guess is that Mrs. Bush will be properly chastized and officially silenced for the next three years.
