media demand for apologies and restitution, and jail time -Ga Bride
The last few days there has been a barage of attempts by the press for the Gaorgia women to apologize, etc etc.
Cnn just had the reporter asking the mayor again once again if jail time would be appropriate--implying it would be. I have heard these type questions over and over.
I am beguilded, bewiildered and just plain sick that they continue with this story!! and continue.
The media smells blood--they want someone to pay for this.
Yet, why not consentrate on our politions and ask BushCo to apologize for his lies--for sending our troops into a war--for invading a country that was not linked to al-quida.
I am so angry--I just feel so very helpless about this whole issue.

1. FUCK THE MEDIA!
It is not this womans fault they made a national case out of a little unscheduled vacation by a bride to be.
Yet they say nothing about lies that got us into a war! NOTHING!
This is total bull shit.
She didn't call the media or the cops for that matter, she has nothing to apologize for and is stupid if she does.

The media can go to hell.

7. All of what you said, liberal N proud,...
...and MORE!

They are soooo desperate to avoid doing any REAL news that they are trying to perpetuate their own baloney.

As the husband of a Puerto Rican woman, I do believe she should apologise to the Hispanic community, but as you say, The Media can go to hell!

4. There is a lot of things this girl did wrong
but she had nothing to do with the over the top media circus that resulted. She needs to tell these folks to go f themselves.

5. The local police should be asking the media outlets to pay
restitution. They drove the plotline of this story. The irony of their coverage was the narrative they were pushing the night she turned herself in. For instance The Newark Star Ledger had an article in print the morning after she "found herself" insinuating that we had a new "Scott Peterson". "Pretty" white female, frumpy husband to be, it must be MURDER, MURDER, Wooohaaahaaahaaa!" Funny thing happened between press and when the paperboyperson dropped the fishwrap on my step. She wasn't missing. She had run away. Nobody sent a search party when my grandfather walked out on my grandmother. Did they?

If the media tries to vilify her its becuase she followed the Yellow brick road and unmasked the wizard. And now that Wizard is pissed.

The media holds the sole blame on this one. Manhunts for missing persons don't take on such proportions unless the media shines their little mobile Hawthorne Effect instruments (camaras) onto the scene. "What...a white girl is missing? Media! Swarm. People! Unite. Yes we are a tight community here in Duluth. We of course do this sort of thing all the time when the camaras are off. And we in the media have the moral responsibility to FIND THIS WOMAN" Right? Right. Well she was found and my how everyone erupted in fury when she turned up alive and unharmed.

6. Pandering to viewer's desire to feel outrage and morally superior
I mean, the woman did a bad thing, criminal thing, but the wallowing in it is simply pandering to the viewers' desire to feel superior.

9. I think she should be stoned to death
Hey, if we're going to start acting like Afghanistan, we might as well go the whole distance.
