1. Second question there is "Are you concerned about the allegations
about Paula Abdul on American Idol."

I am so glad the media is watching out for our best interests....

4. I love the section here about the Runaway Bride...
Runaway Bride Jennifer Wilbanks makes a statement to the media: What do you think she should say? Write us on the space below.

I think we should all write in: Sorry I caused such a media uproar, now journalists should get back to doing what they're supposed to do: Investigate and report the REAL NEWS!

5. This is a type of propaganda...
It assumes a National Prayer Day as already established.

I did not vote as this would imply my acceptance of a National Prayer Day which would be illegal if sanctioned by our government.

Today marks the 53rd annual “National Day of Prayer.”

The day was established as an annual event in 1952 by a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. And this morning, President Bush used the occasion to discuss the importance of prayer.

Who knew?

10. Thanks... I did not know that - I am not religious so ...
it is not something I stored in my brain....

Our government has proclaimed 'nation day of <everything>' so I guess there is nothing wrong with it.

Thanks for this information...!

11. You're welcome. I didn't know it either!

I do agree that voting in this asinine poll infers agreement with the national day of prayer. As I'm a proponent of separation of church and state, I will not vote in this poll.

edit: what is wrong with my grammar skills lately? I'm such a dork.

16. And guess who's behind NPD?
http://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/history.php

James Dobson's wife is the chairman, and they are connected (or parhaps one and the same) with Focus on the Family. These are the same guys behind the Justice Sunday crap from a couple of weeks ago.

6. Being freeped how?
Personally, I think the very idea of a national prayer day is abominable. It is government sanctioning of religiosity, and is demeaning to citizens who choose to live without religion, a sizeable minority of the population.

7. Which way do you want us to vote?
I am curious which way you want us to vote on this. Not that I will vote that way but since yes is way in the lead then I assume you wnat us to vote no?

I don't see how 45 people voting no ccould be what you call freeped unless it was all no's and 300+ Duers suddenly reversed it. Which is possible of course.

Just curious.

12. Yes vote Yes.
Edited on Thu May-05-05 12:44 PM by Carolab
The reason is the fundies are trying to enforce the idea that "Judeo-Christianity" is the ONLY true religion, although Ron Reagan Jr. on Connected Coast to Coast questioned the fundie evangelical guest about this, saying that Jews don't accept Christ as their messiah; therefore, how can he include Jews in their embrace as people who have "accepted Christ as the saviour of the world"? The guy didn't even TRY to explain, just went right on blabbing away about how fundies are great friends to the Jews in Israel and the Knesset....

blah blah blah

13. Uhh No thank you
If there is a National day of Prayer it is my firm belief it should be open to all religions.

You honestly believe that I should vote that a national day of prayer should NOT be open to all religions?

17. How the hell is it being freeped?
I put yes, but my real answer would be "why the hell is there such a thing as National Prayer Day? Abolish it!"

And I don't care what Paula Abdul did. Never watched the show, don't plan to start.

18. Well, you don't have the chance to comment or ask that question.
But the question as posed is trying to EXCLUDE all but Judeo-Christianity, so it's wrong. There IS a national prayer day already, and the fundie evangelicals are trying to co-opt it. So please vote "yes". Thanks.
