What if we made it about one person?
I'm sad to report that many Americans don't seem to care very much about the thousands of innocent Iraqis that have been killed.

What if we made it about one person? Chose one and made America know him or her?

I'm thinking about the little girl with the red dress in Schindler's list.

If we made it about one person - made it personal - would more people start caring?

1. Reminds me of "Old Shoe"
from "Wag the Dog". It's cynical to think that way, but I believe it is a workable prospect. Frankly I would love to see one of the injured, maimed or disabled vets become a household name.

3. Nah...sorry to say.
I remember the napalmed girl from Viet Nam running down the path naked covered with that stuff. War went on. I remember the video of the guy getting shot in the head just on the streed in Saigon. No go.

We're Americans! We want volumes of evidence, streaming video, DVD's.

I think about the only thing that will turn things around in a real hurry is a sureptitious release of the torture evidence they wouldn't show us...the stuff that freaked out Lindsay Graham and the others.

That's what it will take, IMHO.

I would be nice if we could have wide coverage of any of the tragedy that is Iraq.

5. So the pic of the "girl in flowered dress," of which I spoke wouldn't do
it either? More's the pity. <sigh>

9. I'd like to say yes, maybe I'm jaded. Maybe that girl would do.
But I doubt it (I'm such a bummer tonight, should just go right to bed).

I've got it, how about really cute twins! Everybody likes twins!

I may feel a little weird like, waving an individual's bloody shirt. It could be like, their exploitation for the anti-war cause.

But, at the same time, it wouldn't be false or inflammatory. THIS is what actually happened, and THIS is actually why. Yeah, it sucks, but we know that already.

I think a lot of the PR problem with the anti-war movement simply has to do with the fact that we haven't been in the war long enough for the deaths to pile up to like, a level that REALLY pisses everyone off, which is beginning to happen. Granted, I was pissed before the war started, but now even some of the war's major supporters are starting to back down (in the rank and file, at least).

Also, the press has been really shitty through the whole war. It's all about "heroes," and "the greatest generation" type stuff. That's all good and fine, and even appropriate in these times - our troops do deserve respect for the hard work they're doing. (A phrase Bushy likes but doesn't know anything about...) But, on the other side, the more sordid details have been somewhat ignored by our press. There's a smoke screen they voluntarily put up to make the war seem all dandy and heroic, ignoring the flat brutality that exists in even the most noble of wars. That alone, especially on false pretenses, will wear people down.

I think one of the major things pro-peace advocates could do is solidify and concentrate their message. The way it's been portrayed in the news, the peace movement is far and few between, rather than a nation-gripping force. I honestly think if we pulled one of those million-man marches on Washington, it'd suck in many other Americans, and the media would be running around talking about how huge the peace movement has become. Remember the anti-inaugurals that the media kept mentioning during that insane 11-ball affair? I'm thinkin like that, x10. Maybe this July 4 we should stage a freakin huge demonstration - like 80% of all the pro-peace people collect in one location at one time. I think it should be fairly random, and not on one of the Bushy's big news days (like the Inaugural), so it's just ALL about the war protest. And that it comes out of nowhere and hits the chickenhawks when they don't see it coming.

Suddenly the pro-peace movement would drown out the irrelevant Runaway Bride crap. That'd be so badass!! But what do I know.
