Well, well, well, my DU friends, how have you been? It has been far too long.

First, an apology. When it became apparent to me that GWB was going to be re-elected, I went into sort of a news/politcs funk, one that I am just beginning to come out of. I read no news, watched no news, read no blogs, and quite frankly just didn't give a shit about much. If America was willing to go down this path to destruction, let her, was my reasoning. I am but one man, what can I do? I'll finish out my last couple of years in the military, retire, move out of the country, pull up a chair and watch her self-destruct from afar.

But I can't. My great-grandfather fought and bled in WWI and WWII, and when you watch the newsreel footage of the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri, you will see him. My grandfather fought in WWII, bled and nearly died trying to preserve this grand republic. I have fought in Afghanistan, and some of my friends have died. They would not quit, and I will not dishonor them.

I will fight. I WILL live to see the day when common sense is restored to this government and to this electorate.

I will fight to see that the government does not intrude on a families private, painful decision like they did with the Schiavos.

I will fight to see that if the military is called upon, it will not be for folly.

I will fight to see that the Constitution, if amended, will be for equal rights for all, not to discriminate against a few.

I will fight to make sure that the word of God is for all, even white Southern men who are so quick to judge, yet so tardy to show compassion.

I will fight to make sure that if the word of God isn't for you, it won't be rammed down your throat.

I will fight to make sure that elections are not stolen, and results can be verified.

I will fight to make sure that a lifetime of hard work will be rewarded with an adequate pension and quality health care, not pyramid schemes and some bogus prescription drug plan.

I will fight for my future, for my children's future, and for my grandchildren's future.

And when their time comes, they too shall fight.

I think many of us had to step away for awhile. I know I did. Frankly if the admins had not set up the groups and forums for other topics, I probably wouldn't have hung around myself for awhile, and as it was, I did a lot of other stuff. I needed to detox from politics and come to grips with the situation.

But the so-called honeymoon for the Shrub is over, and it's good to know people like you are still in there fighting for what is truly right and just. We actually built some momentum over the last couple years. We need to embrace and refine it and do better next time.
