2. That's not quite the phrase.
Getting over it or not getting over it doesn't quite describe it accurately.

One thing is for sure: if I'm lucky enough to live that long, I'm going to tell my great-grandchildren what a lying, thieving, crying, whining, murderous, warmongering, stupid-ass bastard son of a bitch bush and ALL his ilk were.

Only I'll probably clean up the langauage a bit. :D

12. Not just no, but HELL NO!
I don't understand how anyone in his/her right mind could be okay with what happened. I'm partisan, but I could put the shoe on the other foot early on - well before I knew all of what went on in FL - and if I had been an elector and the situation reversed, I couldn't have cast that vote for Gore. In light of all of the information that Palast and others uncovered and in light of what the Supreme inJustice Court pulled I don't understand how anyone could be comfortable with it and it's just getting worse. Strange, how that bit of totally circumventing the Constitution is never referenced as judicial activism.

I give my kids refresher courses via DVD and VHS of exactly what happened. Forget hell!

on what you mean by "it" and "get(ting) over".

If by "getting over" you mean "getting over the hump", (how I take the words generally) then each particular "it" has its own hump (summit) -- often followed by numerous not-quite-so-demanding valleys and ridges (each to be "gotten over"). If you mean "getting over" in the sense that one is (becomes) completely oblivious or is uneffected by one's experiences, the pain of others, etc, then I think that this is truly possible only for those whose character predisposes them to it (that is, some form of "monster").

And "getting over it" (generally, and in the "hump" context) means (to me) recognizing and coming to terms with the phenomenon -- and the process -- and applying it to one's life.

Breaking up with an SO, for example, can be expected to be bad. But I know that there will be a "hump", and recognizing this, I struggle to climb it -- the hike down will be less demanding of my energies, although I will still need to take due care... Do I ever "get over it" to the point where there truly remains no mark -- probably not... although I might like to think so. But I do get over the hump (and almost all of those humps) -- yes. What choice have I got?

...

I am beginning to think that you are making a cultural reference to "getting over the election", as commonly instantiated in neocon jargon. I got over this particular hump in the days leading up to the election -- when, regardless of what I wanted to believe, it became clear to me that the neocons were going to succeed in pulling off yet another scam. (But I will never, ever, forget or forgive neocon treachery.)

And in this context, I think that the phrase might mean something like: "Fuggedaboutit -- ain't shit you can do, loser -- 'cause we're just better than you." ("Fighting words" in this form, I would say.) -- Of course, I would not agree with this sentiment. The neocons are unscrupulous, treasonous scum, who, if fully exposed for what they are, would never hold another office in this land -- except for those in places so dark that the sun never shines.

25. No, and now they are 'getting it' in the wallet!

Living in a very red state, I heard 'get over it' a lot.

Now, when they complain about their job being outsourced, I say GET OVER IT!

When they complaining about high gas prices, I say GET OVER IT!

When they complain about ... well, you get the point.

Have a couple of obnoxious wingnut friends in particular who I just love throwing that back in their face. And speaking of, you should see the look when I did that.

And the best part is they usually dont say much of anything back, because its an invitation for me to explain what I mean, and they dont want to go there! They have to sit there and bite their tongue, which neither one is very good at, Ha HA!

"The antidote to exhaustion is not necessarily rest. The antidote to exhaustion is wholeheartedness. It is those things you do halfheartedly that really wear you out." David Stendahl-Rast

31. I'll tell you something..
Every so often, I'll be taking the bus home, or walking home from school, when I am suddenly hijacked with the reality that Bush is President. Immediately after this depressing realization, a swarm of depressing and angry emotions proceed to engulf me. These emotions consist of a mixture of "WHY",and "HOW". Some of it is a yearning for a Kerry presidency, how much better he would have been, he was a thinker, a true intellectual, he might have been a crappy candidate, but he sure as hell knew what he was doing

I then go home and watch some compilation videos of the debate downloaded on my computer. Of course these display Bush struggling to utter an articulate sentence let alone a coherent thought

I then think about all the events that have unveiled since Bush became president, he was rewarded for getting us into a war based off of lies, he was rewarded for allowing 9/11 , how could the American people be so fucking stupid.. I then proceed to smoke a joint and then go to bed..

all the emotions of grief and disillusionment and depression you are going through. You can only feel it a little at a time, then you have to bury it again. That's painful, but it is a way of slowly assimilating what has happened. Have faith that this makes sense right now. At least you're not in denial. Related story--I worked for a local Democratic candidate back in the 90's. He was great and probably did win, if every form of election monkey business hadn't taken place. I felt the pain of this very personally. The worst thing was seeing the corruption, the injustice to voters who trusted the system, the injustice to this candidate and his hardworking supporters, the undermining of our ideals of democracy. Nothing was done to address this. It took a long time to get over these disturbing revelations...a process of grieving.

However this experience helps me now, in dealing with what we are seeing on a grand scale --with this corrupt band of arrogant devils in power, who're currently leading us right off a cliff. I am very clear that we need to stop them from carrying out their nefarious agenda every way we can. Americans who know what is really going on are growing and number in the millions, not thousands. Many are going through the same quiet agony about all this--know that you are not alone. Pretty soon something will give and the floodgates will open. The way may get harder before it gets better, but we will take back our country. We've been taught to believe in Democracy, OK now let's see some real democracy around here...for a change.

I was just talking with my dh about the stolen election 2000 tonight, and we both agreed that was the day democracy died.

I still can't believe the US Supreme Court overturned the Constitution that day and killed this country. I don't think we'll ever recover from that.

And I will NOT 'get over' my country being destroyed.
