What a stupid thing to do

Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, who denies partisan motives for his investigation of a political group founded by Republican leader Tom DeLay, was the featured speaker last week at a Democratic fund-raiser where he spoke directly about the congressman.

Political analysts said Earle's appearance left him open to questions about his motives.

"It may help Tom DeLay establish his case that Ronnie Earle's investigation is a partisan witch hunt," said Richard Murray, a political scientist with the University of Houston.

"It clearly fuels the perception that his investigation is politically motivated. It was probably not a wise move," said Larry Noble, a former Federal Election Commission lawyer who heads the watchdog group Center for Responsive Politics.

1. O.k now I got to ask...
Who paid Earle off? Why in the world is he going and doing fundraisers of all things, when an investigation is mounting to put one of the worst criminals behind bars?

Wait, are ethics discarded now? If one person can do it, all can do it mentality? Ron Earle should be making a statement about this because it seems ridiculous.

2. I just can't believe he did this
I can just see the spin now. Nothing like giving them ammunition.

3. Earle is a real bonehead
Everybody here in central Texas knows about the Lacresha Murray case that he botched. I don't have time to get into it now. Then of course, there was his letting the Kay Bailey Hutchinson case slip through his fingers. Somehow I think the same thing will happen here with DeLay, though what the voters in his district do is another matter.

4. So... you can't be a Democrat & prosecute injustice at the same time?
This is typical Repuke spin: if you can't defend your guy's actions, attack the character (or party affiliation) of the prosecutor.

I hope Earle stands up and yells, "Hell, yes, I'm a Democrat! Otherwise, I wouldn't give a shit how sleazy Tom DeLay is, now would I? DeLay's party obviously doesn't!"

6. But this is too important
There is plenty of time to do fundraising speeches. I can just see the ads.
He says it is not partisan or a witch hunt but last week he was raising money for democrats.

I think it was a huge mistake.
