Hilarious-- Bush promises probe into Saddam underwear pictures
Edited on Fri May-20-05 12:23 PM by spooked911
Actual headline:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050520/ts_nm/iraq_britain_saddam_dc_7

"LONDON (Reuters) - Washington promised an investigation on Friday into how pictures of Saddam Hussein in his underpants were splashed across the front-page of Britain's biggest-selling daily newspaper.

The imprisoned former Iraqi leader appeared on the front of the Sun, naked except for a pair of white briefs and holding a pair of trousers in his hand.

The Sun quoted U.S. military sources as saying they had handed over the pictures "in the hope of dealing a body blow to the resistance in Iraq."

Other photographs showed Saddam, with short, dyed-black hair and a mustache, washing clothes by hand and asleep on his bed."

Oh, the humanity!

Not that I want to see either George or Saddam thus attired...

26. briefs: he left his pants unzipped in South America and someone
snapped a photo. The other world leaders either avoided looking at him or stared in amusement (Koizumi) or bafflement at how such a deficient man could be president (Putin)

but proudly proclaims victory while displaying the mutilated corpses of his sons.

25. The pic is supposed to be "body blow" to Saddam supporters?
Edited on Fri May-20-05 01:10 PM by rocknation
Doesn't it run the risk of, ah, "inspiring" Saddam's supporters to, uh, deliver a body blow of THEIR OWN???? And are those "military sources" aware of how well the Abu Grhaib prison photos went over?

Saddam's undie shots. After all, that nasty Scot, Galloway, dared to call him a liar and he's a British MP. Or maybe the photo will be claimed to be created by Photoshop by some Dem who hates America.
I know it all sounds so far fetched-but you never know these days.

21. an investigation? like, how many people have access to Saddam?
that has to be the shortest investigation in history.
Bush: who has access to Saddam?
them: the guards
Bush: who brought in cameras?
them: the guards
Bush how many guards are there?
them: 12.
Bush: dang, we'll never figure this out, let's blame newsweek!

considering that he doesn't believe that not being told about the Georgian grenade or stray Cessna are a big problem. And would I be overdramatizing to describe Jeff Gannon's White House access as a security breach, too?

28. Off topic, but are they planning a trial for him, or they just going to
Edited on Fri May-20-05 01:14 PM by paula777
hold him in that prison until he dies? I know we have laws about a speedy trial here - do they not apply in this case? Maybe his case was based on him having WMDs -

34. Good point-- the lack of WMD IS embarrassing for the trial standpoint
though I'm sure they have him on major human rights violations.

I'm not sure what the hold-up is all about. Certainly his trial could be embarrassing for the US, since we supported him during the time when he did so many brutal things. They could basically be holding him in limbo.

31. "IF possible?"
Edited on Fri May-20-05 01:36 PM by rocknation
A U.S. military statement said the pictures...contravened Saddam's rights as a prisoner and could have broken the Geneva Convention...
COULD HAVE broken the Geneva convention? What does the Bush empire care aboutr the Geneva convention? Isn't that the one they contravened by re-defining torture and sending prisoners to other countries in order to BE tortured?

"This lapse is being aggressively investigated to determine, if possible, who took the photos, and to ensure existing procedures and directives are complied with to prevent this from happening again,"...the statement said.
Like Abu Grhaib, this is a CRIME, not a "laspe." And why, pray tell, WOULDN'T it be "possible" to find the culprits? I'd like to think that the military is running a VERY tight ship in terms of securing Saddam--surely there are records of who guarded him and when!
