Poll question: What do you think a fair sentence is for a Chief of Police that
took a computer out of the evidence room and borrowed it for home use?

1. This just happened in our town
He was sentenced to 4 years in prison.
I thought the sentence was pretty excessive.

3. Admittedly, I have an attitude about cops.
Although several close friends are cops.

I don't think 4 yrs. is excessive. By accepting a job in law enforcement, they should be held to a higher standard. A crooked bookkeeper or store clerk is a problem. A crooked cop is abhorrent.

2. I strted to go with 2 years, but
chose the last option because of the restitution component, but I feel that he should do some time.

Naturally he should lose his job as well as any law enforcement certification. He needs to find a different line of work

4. I think 4 years is very excessive..
It isn't like he stole drugs from the evidence room and turned around and sold them. I think we put people in jail way too often for small offenses in this country. I voted for job loss.

5. Maybe I'm just a bleeding heart liberal
but I say just job loss. 4 years in the big house for a computer theft sounds to me like the prosecutor had an agenda.

6. It Depends On What He Was Doing With It...
...if he was altering files or reports, or covering up corruption, or anything harmful to any American, he needs to do hard time.
If he was playing games or visiting adult porn sites, he should lose his job, be placed on probation, and pay fines and restitution.
IMO.

8. As a Police Officer I say...
Loss of job and 4 year sentence with 3 suspened. He would probably only do about 6 months and be on probation for the remainder.
