Thoughts on Carl Jr's "Paris" commercial?
Edited on Fri May-27-05 01:54 PM by paineinthearse
It can be viewed at http://www.carlsjr.com/home & http://www.spicyparis.com/paris.html

Faux is asking for comment - feedback@foxnews.com - and will be discussing shortly....

My thoughts are although I do not support any form of sexism or exploitation, it think it will set off the fundies on two levels:

1. The raw sex.
2. (more subtle) - the sountrack has a sultry-sounding woman singing the words "I love Paris in the springtime......

So this commercial comes as no surprise.

I was thinking about eating there for lunch just to spite the fundies who are protesting it.

Kevin And Bean (morning jocks on LA's KROQ station) interviewed the guy who made that commercial and he said it was no more pornographic (whatever that is) than a lot of the music videos that he's made.

8. I know it may be unamerican of me, but I don't patronize a store
because of its ads. I patronize a store based on (1) its product, and (2) when possible, its political affiliation.

Carl's Jr is associated with Hardee's, and Hardee's is, I understand, heavily RW. I don't eat there.

So what's Paris got to do with it?

Is Paris Hilton's New Video Too Spicy for TV?
Tuesday, May 24, 2005

This is a partial transcript from "The O'Reilly Factor," May 23, 2005, that has been edited for clarity.

Watch "The O'Reilly Factor" weeknights at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET and listen to the "Radio Factor!"

BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "Back of the Book" segment tonight: Carl's Jr. (search) is a burger franchise mainly out on the West Coast and in its wisdom has hired Paris Hilton to sell its product.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (singing): I love Paris in the springtime. I love Paris in the fall. I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles. I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles. I love Paris every moment.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

O'REILLY: Hungry?

Joining us now from Miami is Barbara Lippert, who works for "Ad Week" magazine and wrote about — an article about the situation. The CEO of Carl's Jr., Andrew Puzder (search), was supposed to appear this evening but canceled. He did, however, send us a statement that says he considers Ms. Hilton to be an "intriguing cultural icon." Indeed.

18. I hate to sound like a fuddy duddy, but ....
I do not like the commercial at all. I am not sure what time and when they are airing it but I have small children. I had to wait for my 5 & 6 year old to be out of the room before I could watch this. I would have to clear them out of the room each time it airs. I hope they pull it unless it is airing late night.

I do not want to censor and the commercial is fine if adults want to watch it. My husband always says he can not understand places like Hooters or strip clubs with lunch time buffets. He says he either wants to eat or see naked women but it is very distracting when you combine both. He is not saying strip clubs should be outlawed, he is human and has visited more than once. He is just saying it is bizarre to combine one of these things. This looks like an ad for the Playboy Channel, not a hamburger!

I would die of embarrassment if my older relatives were inthe room when that came on, or would feel really uncomfortable trying to explain to my 13 year old daughter why it's okay to be a total skank and re=enact a porno scene on a TV commercial during her favorite shows, and why it's not okay for her to emulate that.

Paris Hilton looks like a chicken bone with the meat picked off, and she's getting that George Hamilton look. If theyr'e going for horny teen boys, fine, but why must the rest of us suffer?

As far as the ad, who cares? All of our popular culture is trash, thanks to the corporations that promote it, and it's easily ignored like the rest of it.

82 year old father announced that it was "trash" -- after carefully watching it. I think it's over the top, but that's because I have a 12-year-old daughter and, while I don't think she's going to suffer any permanent damage from watching Paris seductively take a sponge to her breasts and lean over a car showing off her butt, I think the ad execs in this case are playing to too narrow of a demographic - 18 to 49 yr. old males, while risking alienating women, young families, and seniors. But that's their call.

This whole commercial is stupid... like we're supposed to believe that Paris Hilton would actually do any of the things that she does in this commercial. Do you seriously think that Paris Hilton would 1) Wash a Bentley (she has people to do that), 2) Eat - and if she did eat why would she eat at Carl's Jr when she could easily pop by the Viper Room and spend $27.50 on a burger and snort a few lines while she's at it?? I don't know what demographic there trying to woo (I'm guessing the 18-35 white male dough-boys who spend more time besting their high score on their Sony Play station games than on their social life) This is the girl who thought Walmart was a paint and wallpaper store - she doesn't live in the real word. What a better person to pitch a burger to working class Americans??

. . . have SEXXXXXXXX.

It's the first Carl's commercial I've ever liked and I can't wait to see it again and again and again . . . although I still hate Carl's and wouldn't eat there on a bet.

Another recent commercial that I can't stop watching is the one with sweaty, beautiful young miners digging coal to the tune of "16 Tons. Very sexy commercial. Yummmmmm. Too bad it's for corporate thug GE.
