Holy Crap! 40 Men Blind from taking Viagra???
Edited on Fri May-27-05 03:11 PM by leftchick
I just heard this on the CBS news report. :wow:

<snip>

The Food and Drug Administration disclosed Friday that it was in discussions with the makers of Viagra, Cialis and Levitra about what the labels of those drugs should say about the rare cases of varying degrees of vision loss, including blindness. The maker of Cialis already has voluntarily added a one-line mention to its label.

The FDA has 43 reports of NAION among the impotence drug users: 38 for Viagra, four for Cialis and one for Levitra, said spokeswoman Susan Cruzan.

3. still - if they showed no signs of impending blindness before..it is
a bit worrisome. Blindness is slow in my experience.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=578&e=3&u=/nm/20050527/ts_nm/health_viagraxx_dc

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. health regulators on Friday said they have received more than 40 reports of a type of blindness in men taking impotence drugs, mostly involving Pfizer Inc.'s Viagra.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it has received about 38 reports of the rare condition among users of Viagra, four reports of blindness among users of Eli Lilly and Co.'s Cialis and one report of the condition in men talking Levitra, made by GlaxoSmithKline Plc.

Pfizer said outside of clinical trials, Viagra has been used by more than 23 million men worldwide over the past seven years. It said reports are extremely rare of visual loss due to the condition known as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION)."

FDA is aware of these reports but has not determined there is a cause and effect due to use of Viagra ... We're working with the company to make sure this information is available to doctors and patients," FDA spokeswoman Susan Cruzan told Reuters.

8. I told my dr that Viagra was affecting my vision.
It had some pretty profound effects on my color preception and ability to change focus. And the effects persisted for a day or so after taking it.

Dr said "nothing to worry about" but I quit using it. Looks like I made the right decision.

17. the side effects of that stuff are quite unpleasant
I get a tingly scalp, my sinuses tighten up so my voice goes all nasal, I see a blue halo around any light, have a little queasy feeling in my stomach, and a mild headache.

Even if it did give a raging boner--which it doesn't because on top of all the side effects, like most medications, the shit doesn't work as advertised--I would be remotely interested in sex.

Viagra, Cialis, Lavitra they are a fucking--pun intended--scam.

12. With rare exception those who need to take Viagra et al aren't up to the
task health wise IMHO and sadly Viagra is reportedly being used by those even in their thirties who don't need it, but are just looking for some recreational magic elixir.

15. From the article...
Also complicating the question: NAION is considered one of the most common causes of sudden vision loss in older Americans, and estimates suggest there are anywhere from 1,000 to 6,000 cases a year. Risk factors include diabetes and heart disease, two of the leading causes of impotence.

So it may simply be that the group of people who use Viagra are, on average, more prone to NAION to begin with. Correlation does not necessarily equal causality. Still, the issue does need to be examined.

25. we are on the same brain wave today...
I am using my one and only brain cell for dirty thoughts today, ha!

I can hear the Viagra bottles falling all over the Dobsonites' homes across America. Praise Jesus, the lord has stuck them down for their "Shock" and "Awe". Amen.

As for actual sane human males, I am so very sorry. Can you stop using that stuff and try perhaps some natural method?

...call a doctor".

It appears these men were "taking matters into their own hands", in manner of speaking.
