Monthly DU Freedom Speaks Awards.
What if DU each month named a recipient of different awards for people who have spoken truth to power, the media, etc? I haven't completely thought this through and certainly could use some input from DUs.

I can see a monthly John Conyers Truth to Power, or a Barbara Boxer Standing Up for America, or a George Galloway International Integrity award.

Each month we could take nominations from DUs to be submitted by a certain date, limit the nomination to 100 words or less (or length to be decided) and use a rotating panel of members, moderators, etc. that could award the distinction for that month or a simple vote poll after reading the submissions. Of course, there would be no monetary award but DU could generate a news release announcing the awards and get a little play time in the media. It would give us a chance to commend those who are truly standing up to the cabal of evil doers in this administration. We handle this right and it could become a badge of honor for those people who often do not get the recognition they deserve for the courage they show.

There are details that need to be worked out, criteria, etc. but it would be a proactive exercise for democracy. Any thoughts?
