Poll question: If Given The Choice: Would You Legalize Weed OR Repeal The Patriot Act?
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 07:27 AM by DistressedAmerican
Here's a puzzler for you this morning...

Say you were handed the keys to the federal government for once. You are given the choice of immediately decriminalizing marijuana or repealing the USA Patriot Act.

Which would you choose?

OR

1. Legalize it first
That would lead to an overall reduction of fear and stress in the US public, thus making it much easier to gain support to overturn the Patriot Act.

Maybe.

But I would still repeal the Patriot act first...

...although both need to be done soon!

8. So, if pot were legalized...

...a majority of Americans would start smoking it, which would lead to a nationwide reduction in stress and fear, which would cause us to feel more secure from terrorism, which would motivate us to work together to overturn the Patriot Act.

Is that an accurate summary of your reasoning?

7. I'm not power greedy, I want the unwarranted power over me
removed! I don't need no stinking government agent looking over my library records, and I sure don't need the government telling me I can't burn some plant that grows wild and inhale the smoke.

4. Once the Patriot Act's
repealed, true legislation can be enacted, like decriminalizing marijuana for health reasons.

6. Ending the drugs prohibition
I interpret your poll as ending the FDA monopoly, and accepting that
human beings have the right to take whatever drugs they feel their
body calls for, period, with federal police focused entirely on the
FDA approved drugs, and offering a secondary ATF classification for
all non-FDA-approved ones with tax stamps and all for commercial
providers.

The reasoning is in pure numbers. The drugs laws violate millions of
peoples lives, and although the patriot act is a horrible erosion, it
is not currently criminalizing millions of persons and holding over
100,000 in prisons for nonviolent crimes, and and and and.. The
raw numbers argument favours ending prohibition, over a law that is not
enforced and never will be enforceable given its anticonstitutional
nature. (patriot).

16. Legalize weed.
The Patriot Act has imprisoned I suppose a few scores of people.

Tens of thousands of people are in jail over marijuana.
