Awwwwww, poor MSM! It's all the big bad AP's fault on the DSM.
As newspaper editors look back and examine why the controversial Downing Street memo, first published by the Times of London on May 1, received so little coverage in their papers, several of them are pointing to the same culprit: the Associated Press. Editors rely on the worldwide wire service to let them know what's worthy of attention, and that's particularly true for international events. In the case of the Downing Street memo out of London, they say the AP simply failed to cover the story.

(snip)

But a more pressing question remains about the media at large: Why, in the face of the clearly newsworthy memo -- which made international headlines and went straight to the issue of how and why President Bush decided to invade Iraq -- did senior editors and producers at virtually every major American news outlet let the story slip through the cracks?

Yes. That is a good question.

Because *I* knew about the DSM when it first broke.

Because most DUers knew about the DSM when it first broke.

Because most progressive Americans on any and alll political boards knew about the DSM when it first broke.

Now ain't that strange.

1. Yeah-"the wire did it." Thats it. Its "the wire's" fault.
"The wire" also "hypnotized" us and forced us to play Runaway bride & Wacko-Jacko stories as well.

OH THAT EVIL WIRE!!!

3. The MSM is a bunch of lazy hacks...
I'm not saying that is true of all so called journalists, but it seems to me that if a story doesn't fall in their laps, they don't report it. "Investigate"? What is that? Most journalists these days couldn't investigate their way out of a wet dream...

It is absolutely pathetic.

4. Aw, let them have their face-saving little fiction. It's actually a sign
that bigger things are coming.

Having admitted that they, or at least AP, screwed up, is gonna make it very difficult for them to ditch the story now, for 2 major reasons. First, they are implicitly admitting that it's a VERY big story; and second, they're acknowledging that they are now aware of it. With those two admissions, they've painted themselves into a very nasty corner and they're gonna have to stay with it til the end now, or wind up totally discrediting themselves. They just ran themselves out of excuses. "The wire ate it" isn't gonna fly again.

5. Why is it always some else's fault?
There's so damned little **actual reporting** any more. Its always someone else's fault. The news, it seems, is always one news organization quoting another news organization. They never cover the story ... only the story of the story.

Hey ... mediaguys ... do your fucking jobs!
