A messege from Senator John McCain (global warming)..
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 06:17 PM by fighttotheend
Today, we're asking you to take an important step in our campaign by joining the "Stop Global Warming Virtual March on Washington." This unprecedented Internet effort is led by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Senator John McCain, NRDC trustee Laurie David and other environmental leaders.

Please go to http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/campaigns/sgw/partner/nrdc/
to join this historic march, and invite your family and friends to do the same. Together, we will demand that Congress and the Bush administration take the necessary and long overdue steps to reverse potentially catastrophic changes in the Earth's climate.

McCAIN WRITES;

Today the Stop Global Warming Virtual March on Washington arrives in my home state of Arizona, where global warming will make normal, seasonal droughts longer and more severe. Ranches in my state recently endured six long, dry years that devastated grazing lands. Many were forced to abandon land they'd worked for generations, and others saw long-profitable and proud businesses pushed to the brink of bankruptcy. This spring, the rains returned, but the climate change that made this drought so severe threatens us still. Read more about what is happening in my home state and the ranchers’ plight at http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/march/cascabel

Joining us on the March this week is the world’s most respected newsman, Walter Cronkite. As you can see, the March continues to grow and is supported by our country’s most visionary leaders and experts on global warming.

Joining the March is a powerful way for you to have your voice heard in the fight to stop global warming and I hope you will join me in reaching out to friends, family and colleagues to march with us. If we all work together as one voice, we can shift the debate on this issue this year.

Sen. John McCain
Marcher

1. wow, McCain marching with Robert Kennedy and NRDC
I didn't realize McCain was an environmentalist, there is a point in his favor for 2008.

3. That is the ONLY point in his favor
And it is not even totally good. He supports nuclear energy.

7. Well if McCain is the republican opponent
then it would be a heck of a lot better than some of the others mentioned, like Brownback or Frist.

I could live with McCain as president.

9. Are you ready to have troops in Iraq in 10 years?
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 06:24 PM by Mass
This is what he is advocating in addition to attacking Iran.

If we absolutely need a Republican as president, I go with Hagel. At least, he understands we have to live with other countries, but I would clearly prefer to have a Democrat.

Even the most right-wing Democrat will be better.

10. Of course I would prefer the Democrat
but all I'm saying is if the Dem nominee didn't win again I'd rather have a McCain than somne of the others mentioned as republican possibilities for 2008

13. Seems like it
It'll be interesting if he talks about it anymore or just for this photo-op march.

15. McCain has been talking a lot about environment
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 07:10 PM by Mass
This is not new. He is one of the few Dems to vote against the drilling in ANWR, for example.

This is probably the only good thing in him.

4. McCain's head injury sometimes makes him support Bush...
and then he comes back to earth.

I hope he never gets elected president or mass confusion would reign.

5. Why in the world is John McCain always bad cop/good cop?
One day he's on the wrong side, the next the good side.

I just wonder....Does this guy have any clear defined position at all?

He's either apologizing for the thugs or slapping them in the face. It just doesn't add up.

14. He's trying to appeal to both sides I think
for 2008. That way when he does run and if he's the nominee some moderate democrats and independents could vote for him. My mom seems to like him okay. I've never asked if she'd vote for him or Hillary though. I think what he does after this (if he keeps talking) will show if he's serious or not. He's no Robert Kennedy Junior of course where the enviornment is concerned. Don't most rightwingers not believe in global warming though? They're already pissed at him for the compromise with the democrats on the filibuster. And no canidate will win the White House on the republican side without George Bush and Dick Cheney supporting and endorsing them.

8. The idea of a 'Virtual" march to end global warming is kind of silly and..
self defeating, ho wmuch energy are they going to use up with their computers doing their virtual march? Whatever happened to getting out and getting your hands dirty?

Republicans are such simpletons.
