Ramifications for the Internet.
Despite rampant denial from mainstream(corporate) media sources, there's a new Cronkite in town. He's here, there and everywhere. The once envisioned power of a direct interconnection between otherwise unrelated individuals is finally coming to fruition. Years of conducting focus groups to determine the various ingredients necessary to program America is coming to nought. I believe you are witnessing the post-pubescent coming-out-party of the Interblogosphere. When suppressed news becomes discussed news, a new challenger has entered the ring. For the media this is a Tunguska Event. They've lost viewership and readership. They've lost the trust of both sides of the political spectrum and their only remaining value is a documentarian one. Transcripts and video, which will be sifted and parsed not by the media themselves but by the reason, logic and illogic of others. Simply put, they're losing control of "The Message."

There is no way that the PTB will take this sitting down. I fear that the other shoe is about to drop. While I believe that the forthcoming response will ultimately fail, I fear for the short-term consequences. The response may be humorously inadequate, ala Chimp's "Save Social Security Seminar." More likely it will take the form of "The Internet Repatriation Act."

2. Wasn't there a bill introduced, some rubbish about internet innovation act
that would nix low-cost internet access? (and would likely give the telco companies more power to ramp up rates to the point we bleed green for them?)

But I believe that that was based more in monetary consolodation than message consolodation. It's a fair point. I just don't believe that the simps in Congress have that kind of foresight--absent concrete examples of how hot the fire burns.

edit: cross t's and dot i's.

5. Let the corrupt CIA come after the internet....
And watch them squirm as we investigate their activities, and turn the whole damn thing against them.

6. I can see it now...shrub's storm troopers kicking down doors and
taking away people and computers in the middle of the night.

Seems far fetched...but I would not put anything past these power crazed criminals.

8. Nah.
They'll just snip the wire. By pricing it out of their opponents political base or by declaring imminent domain.

7. I hear the Britts are having a tough time with bugs
Twice today when I went to British newspaper sources I picked something up which covered 1/2 of my screen, and forced me to fully shut down and restart my system in order to be rid of it. Maybe just a bug here in my old system, maybe something else. I know that the Internet is a HUGE thorn in the side of the "ass's of evil". True Democracy requires an informed electorate. I believe they know that they can not survive the outrage of a fully informed electorate. My fear is this: How are they going to shut off this hemorrhaging of info which may bring them to justice? Is it possible for them to plant some kind of "terrorist bug" online which shuts us down, or severely impairs our information flow? I can not imagine staying even a minute longer in America if these bastards shut down the flow of objective news here on the Internet.
