How long will the so called "War on Terror" last?
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 01:52 PM by Jara sang
I predict the republicans will milk this thing forever. They will dilute it so much that the general public will begin to see it as an example of the Federal governments ineffectiveness and it will eventually become a non issue. In the mean time a very serious threat will develop that will not be attended while our attention is focused on "the War on Terror". The "War on Terror" is nothing more than a propaganda tactic that Bush and the military industrial complex have created to generate positive public sentiment for their illegal wars, defense budget and contracts and to fatten the pockets of Bush's cronies.

edited for clarity

1. It's a fiction that means what ever they want, so it will be hard to
logically argue against it.

2. It will last as long as it is called the "War on Terror"
In reality, it will never end, cause there will always be terror.

4. Until everyone lives in terror
Well, that's not the official administration policy, but darned close.

5. Not unlike the War on Drugs....
it will never end, if BushCo has its way. Remember they want to rid the world of "evil" which is intentionally ambiguous and can never be achieved. Like Ron Suskind said in his great article in the NYT last October, the religious right ALWAYS needs an enemy, and they have it in the evil of terrorism.

6. I think we need to change the terminology here
Whatever this war is, it will last as long as the republicans are in office.

But let's be frank here. It's not a war on terror. In the same way that we need to stop saying the this administration mislead and start saying that they lied, we need to call this what it is, whatever that may be -- hey, DUers, come up with some other language that works -- and stop lending even a little credibility by calling it a war on terror.

There is no war on terror. There never has been a war on terror.

13. Exactly
They have a brutal government as well. Especially with the women. But of course Bush considers them an "ally." :eyes:

10. I hope that it does.
All these ambiguous notions that these policy people throw around like the so-called "War on Terror" have real live consequences.

It gives them the perfect excuse to chip away at our civil liberties in the name of "homeland security".
