hoo boy! you can't touch smirk's furniture (not a joke)

actually it's our furniture

No beeps, rings or furniture touching
Bush's rules of decorum are firm in the Oval Office, not in Crawford

-snip-

Coming to office after the more casual Clinton administration, Bush imposed a strict dress code and standards of promptness for employees, visitors and even the rumpled press corps.

-snip-

Bush recently hosted South Korean President Roh Moo-hyn in the Oval Office, where he was visibly annoyed by the nonchalance of visiting South Korean newsmen.

Members of the White House press corps understand that, as a rule, touching the furniture in the Oval Office is strictly forbidden. Even when Bush brings a group of journalists in for an informal chat, he does not invite them to sit.

So it was with unconcealed consternation that Bush sat through a brief question and answer session with the South Korean president, while two sound engineers from the South Korean press corps sprawled on a couch to get a good position for the remarks.

The generally loquacious Bush delivered his comments in short, abrupt sentences with a tone of impatience.

So profound was his air of injury that at one point, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, standing against a wall, stepped forward to peer at the offending sound technicians.
-snip-
------------------------------------

gold stars to the two S.K. sound engineers for upsetting smirk the nitwit.

Whereas if Clinton had done it, it would mean he was a stuck-up liberal.

The problem with * is that he was told being Presnint required having "respect for the office," and he thought that meant just the actual room.

Actually, I've always thought of that family as the type who lived with plastic covers on all of the furniture.

I'm just waiting for the rule that every woman who comes into his presence needs to wear white gloves and a feathered hat.

Okay, yes he is. However, he isn't stupi...uh, okay, so maybe he's stupid, too. HOWEVER, W knows Poppy used to be able to rub out adversaries with a few doses of LSD on the steering wheel of their car. Maybe he's afraid the Koreans will plant something on his favorite sofa, then one night when he's watching teevee, eating pretzels, he'll get a reaction, choke, and fall over and hit his face on the ground.

He...it could happen! Especially if you are a paranoid megalomaniac slipping into the depths of dimensia.

20. 60's lore
I don't recall the source. I remember reading an article about the brutal politics of the sixties, when assassinations and National Guardsmen killing our own students, was in voque. It mentioned this as a great assassination method, as LSD's halflife is very short, and would never be suspected in an autopsy. You paint a lethal dose on the intended's steering wheel, which is absorbed through the skin. He starts tripping out while driving. Most of these people would be hard-core government geeks, and would have no clue as to the effects of LSD; they'd think they were losing it, they'd freak out...have YOU tried driving while tripping? Supposedly, the victim would usually drive of a cliff or into a tree before the lethal dosage killed him, making the "accident" that much more plausible. If he just died first, apparently LSD looks a lot like a heart attack at such doses.

28. There's no lethal dose for LSD
and putting it on a steering wheel was an ineffective way to dose someone with it, even when mixed with a compound like DMSO to cause it to penetrate the skin.

It would have been much easier to distract somebody and spike their food or drink. The doses were minute and the drug wouldn't start to act for about an hour, meaning the victim wouldn't notice a funny taste and would likely be on the road when the drug hit.

about Bush. Putting his muddy boots on his mother's antique furniture. The man doesn't have respect for other people. He lacks empathy. He can't even pretend empathy. He's just a swaggering, arrogant poser.
How sad for America that he is a symbol of our nation.

Evidently it's okay for HIM to use the furniture like that (and look silly in the process). So clearly he's not that worried about potential damage!

The thing is, the WH has access to some of the best cleaning and repair people in the biz. If someone spills coffee on the carpet or upholstery, or leaves finger-marks on the doorknobs, that can be dealt with calmly and efficiently. The most fragile or irreplaceable stuff is in display cases in the Smithsonian. Yes, there are valuable antiques in the Oval Office and other rooms, but they're "working antiques" -- they are there to be seen and used. People who are used to being around such items are careful, sure, but they don't make a big deal about harrumphing when somebody is slouching on the sofa. Being more concerned about telling visitors off than having a productive meeting or creating a welcoming atmosphere sends the message that you care more about a few smudges than about them.

p.s. Oh yeah, and as donsu pointed out, it's not HIS furniture -- it belongs to the American people. If Americans visiting the White House are afraid to sit down because Rummy is glaring at them -- something is wrong here.

God this arrogant little child wanna-be king really needs to be brought down a notch or 70. We're at war, the economy is in the toilet and all he can think about is if someone touches the precious furniture he doesn't own in a room he never belonged in?

Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 06:48 AM by stanwyck
who has been painted as such a monster, raised such a charming, intelligent poised young woman. And the sweet old grandmother Barbara Bush raised a pack of spoiled brats. Yes, hard-bitten careerist Hillary (with Bill, of course) raised a daughter we would all be proud of. And Barbara, the stand by your man, old fashioned homemaker (right...like Barbara ever did anything without a full-time staff) taught her over-privileged pack how to carry out some of the dirtiest politics our country has seen. Push polling their opponents. Hiring "Swiftboat Liars" with their buddies' oil money. Nothing is too low for these thugs. Yet, we're still plagued with that beautific image of Madame Bush in her pearls with her "beautiful mind."
The mind boggles.
