Sen. Nelson wants Florida guard, reserve troops sent home
Thursday, September 11, 2003
Associated Press

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson urged Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Wednesday to reject or modify an Army policy requiring National Guard and reserve troops, including many from Florida, to serve a year in Iraq although units from some states have never been activated.

Approximately 5,200 Florida guardsmen, about half of the entire force, were deployed to Iraq and Kuwait and some 2,000 are still there, said Lt. Col. Ron Tittle, a Florida Guard spokesman. Also, about 4,000 Florida reservists were on active duty at some point this year.

The letter followed Nelson's questioning of Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at a Senate Armed Services Committee meeting Tuesday.

Both promised to investigate complaints that Florida guardsmen and reservists are unfairly being kept in Iraq nine months after many were activated.

1. Bush considers Florida "safe", so he's bleeding them dry
Jebby will come thru again in 04, so best bleed Florida dry of reservists rather than piss off another state.

3. You would've thought
that BushCo would have sent reservists from the blue states first. I'm surprised he's not doing it as payback for voting for Gore.

Wow, that was truly and utterly cynical.

Gov. Jeb Bush makes obscene gesture to protestors, child
February 2, 2002

Packed up all my signs, along with a new one "$WHERE'S OUR MONEY JEB$", and side two "BYE JEB & KATE", and headed to Clearwater to give Jeb Bush a proper greeting.
......

The woman in the van, Nancy, had a sign that said "HONK TO FIRE JEB"! It was the perfect touch. We stood on both sides of the street giving motorists traveling by an opportunity to respond.

I would say according to our roadside poll, Jeb was defeated. Most of the cars driving by honked, some even laid on the horn! Bus drivers, taxi drivers and just plain motorists!
......

So? How is it safe for Gov. Jeb Bush him to drive around in a convertible with terrorists in our midst? He was wearing a baseball cap, he drove into the parking lot of the Sheridan stuck his arm straight up in the air with his middle finger up.

It was a bird, he shot us a bird to us: Mad Grandmothers, Young Democrats and a child!

I called out to him "Where's Our Money Jeb?" We all started chanting DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY VALUES, he disappeared into the hotel.

I hope we ruined his dinner! The Mad Grandmothers, Young Democrats of Pinellas and the little boy made a impact. Jan said there was a clip on Channel 9 News in Tampa.
