The Associated Press
Published: Jul 7, 2005

WASHINGTON (AP) - Treasury Department officials asked people to move away from windows in one section of the main building Thursday after a suspicious car was sighted outside.
Staffers and reporters were told to move to the hallway.

Norman Foote, the building's security specialist, said the building was not being evacuated. The suspicious vehicle was being investigated by authorities.

(Adds spokesman comment)

WASHINGTON, July 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury Department sounded an all-clear after asking those in the Treasury building to move away from windows due to the presence of a suspicious vehicle, a Reuters eyewitness said on Thursday.

Major cities worldwide were on edge following deadly blasts in London earlier on Thursday.

A Treasury spokesman said a bomb-sniffing dog had smelled something amiss in a vehicle outside the building, located next door to the White House.

7. Hmm...
... the bit about the bomb-sniffing dog reminds me of something--years ago, there was a mileage/performance enhancer being sold in which the active ingredient was picric acid (a precursor chemical in the manufacture of dynamite).

Be a hell of a shock to get arrested for possession of explosives when it was nothing more than residue from a gasoline additive....
