If I ever die in a terrorist attack...
I hereby give you my permission -- no, I demand -- that you continue doing everything you can to uncover the workings of global powermongers, from the East and the West, who wove the web which ultimately led to my death. That would honor me. Do not humor them by declaring moratorium on your pursuit of their motives and their actions; if anything, go after them with greater zeal.

That's all.

2. Hear hear
If I ever die in a terrorist attack, I want you all to politicize the SHIT out of it and to especially point out the direct corrolation between my country wasting valuable resources via private contracts to political cronies when those resources could have made the place where I was attacked less vulnerable to such a senseless act.

9. If you die in a terrorist attack

I will personally buy a lottery ticket in your honor (since my
chance of winning the lotto is about the same as you being killed
in a terrorist attack!)

Then, with my winnings, I will politicize the hell out of your
death.

14. If you're accusing me of grandstanding,
understand that it was just a way to express a sentiment independent from whether I personally die in an attack or not.

16. No - not at all...
just pointing out that your chance of being killed by terrorists
is really very, very small.

Now, should you die of carcinogens introduced by pollution or
increased radiation or changes to our environment, can I also
use your death as a political statement?

There are many reasons to hate the policies of the corporatists
that have taken over our country, the "war on terror" (and the
reasons for the terrorists existence) are but a few... and while
terror and war makes for splashy news coverage (don't get me wrong,
it's horrible), dieing by other policy decisions of these idiots
leaves you just as dead... and the other policies kill more people
every day than any modern war.

18. I agree wholeheartedly
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 11:47 AM by Goldmund
Speaking of carcinogens and diseases, calling for a "moratorium" on political discussions in wake of an attack like this is equivalent to calling for a moratorium on medical and environmental (and political, for that matter) discussion in wake of an epidemic.

22. That just makes your chances worse
The chance of the OP dying in a terror attack is slim enough. The chances of you winning the lottery are very slim.

So, combining those makes just an incredibly low probablity, I imagine...

Just being a smartass...

10. This is one pledge I will take
There is a difference between exploiting a tragedy and wanting answers as to how it happened. I wouldn't want the death of myself or a loved one to be in vain. Hopefully lessons could be learned and people could be held accountable to help prevent it from happening to someone else.

33. i think i
agree- .... i'm probably one of those 'liberals' Rove was targeting with his remarks-

BUT
People usually use 'terrorism' as a last resort to defend themselves, or 'justify' themselves- (NOT that that makes it right!!!)- Personally i'd like to have the world 'fess-up' admit our GLOBAL responsibility for many 'bad things' and seek to do as Lincoln suggested, when he said-
"The best way to destroy your enemy is to make him your friend."

and, this admittedly radical notion-

"When someone steals another's clothes, we call them a thief. Should we not give the same name to one who could clothe the naked and does not? The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry; the coat unused in your closet belongs to the one who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the one who has no shoes; the money which you hoard up belongs to the poor."

25. If I ever die in a terrorist attack...
I give you permission to forgive the attacker(s), and to use the
political fallout of the attack to build some schools, help some sick
people and spread some lovin'.

If there must be a memorial, then let there be a massive musical
festival where we invite half the musicians from the place who attacked
us, that we might make love through music.

28. Agreed ...
This reminds me of a LTTE I wrote after several people blasted the local paper for putting a photo of the school children devastated in the Russian hostage crisis on the front page. Indulge me for posting the whole thing ... I don't have time to paraphrase:

How nice that we live in a country where we can not only pick and choose what we see, but also admonish when we decide that it is "inappropriate." Sept. 8 letter writers Joy --- ("Appalling Photo") and Dave --- ("Why Show This?"), who criticized the PG for publishing front-page photos of schoolchildren killed in the recent Russian hostage crisis, have that luxury. They aren't forced to look at and acknowledge dead children in their own backyards. It is this sort of mentality that allows us to attack others with out so much afterthought.

If you don't see it, then it ceases to exist. Maybe if we were forced to look, then people would be more conscientious about the choices they make and realize how much we have to be grateful for. I ask you, Mr. ---, how much reality is "too much" when it comes to the news? Is it exploitation only when it makes you uncomfortable? Ms. --- said, "You just made a horrible situation even worse." Is that even possible? "Let these families say good-bye to their children in peace. What if these were your children?" And to that I say, these children did not die in peace and if they were mine, I would want the world to see the devastation and mourn them so it wouldn't happen again.

I am horrified by this, and also for Iraqi children and countless others that we don't see. I don't, however, think a "little bit more tact and better judgment" is the answer.

Denial doesn't solve much, now, does it? Oh, and Ms. ---: If war, fearmongering and everyday violence in our own neighborhoods weren't enough warrant a little parental supervision, your problem is greater than you think.

So, yes ... I am with you 100%.
