nice going by Pat Buchanan - Madeline Albright confronted
Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 05:52 PM by eablair3
He just confronted Madeline ALbright on Buchanan & Press about her comments a few years ago on 60 Minutes where she said the price was worth it after being asked about the sanctions that killed half a million children.

She said it was a stupid statement and regrets having made it.

she went on to state the sanctions did not prohibit medicines or foods for children. she said saddam prevented the medicines and food from getting to the Iraqi people by using the money to build palaces. she said that is why they started "oil for food". I don't think this is accurate, as I remember medicines were embargoed (even after "oil for fodd") under the guise that they could be "dual use" or be used to start making biological weapons, so the story went. I recall peace activists being fined, arrested, etc for bringing into Iraq medicines for the children. Anyone else recall the particulars? Did Madeline lie?

good to see at least one or two tough questions being asked.

4. Did not prohibit medicines for children?
Then why is Bert Sacks of Seattle being harrassed and fined $10,000 by the government for taking medicine to Iraqi children during the 90s? If you do a search on google using "Bert Sacks sanctions" you'll find the story.
