Overextending Reserve and Guard tours is a political disaster
Heard this on NPR...

The reservists and guard troops who are having their tours extended are starting to grumble they won't re-enlist... and this spells disaster if this war goes on over two to three years...

This means DRAFT... if the volunteer troops don't choose to extend their tours they will be forced to start a draft.

I think that Bush realizes that they may need a draft so they will keep those troops over there until the 2004 election to avoid the disaster of a draft.

because the disaster won't become evident until sometime after Election 2004. Also, I think he both wants and NEEDS a draft. Half our military is already occupied with Iraq and Afghanistan. If the NG's refuse to re-up, it will give him an excuse to start a draft.

2. I hope that people start to connect the dots because a Draft
is going to happen based on what is going on ...

3. You can BET there will be a Draft
The Bush/PNAC Energy Endgame looks like it will require "securing" the entire Middle East. Even a "decapitation" war with Iran could take a post-war occupation force of 500,000 (extrapolating from the Iraqi figures of 150,000). Extend that to include Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, we could be talking about huge chunks of the graduating Classes of 2004 through, oh, 2015.

Since Europe also depends on this oil, they will be expected to contribute, as well.

It can't get that far without a major "deprecation" of Democracy. Essentially, Team PNAC will undertake to end Democracy in America in exchange for five to fiteen years more of cheap petroleum.

That is where the political action will be taking place. A "well-placed" nuke, though, could end Democracy in about 100 microseconds, no matter who emplaces it.

5. Saudi Arabia is going to explode or go over to Russia
and either way it's going to require military action on our part, and that's going to require a draft.
