Was everyone so forgiving when David Brinkley died...
after he basically dismissed Clinton as utterly useless on National television and then weasled an apology after getting caught with his foot in his mouth?

7. No, I'm pretty much a non grave dancer across the board.
One should watch what one says, because a lot of people on this board have time...and the ability to run a search. Better make sure there's no glass in your house. :hi:

13. devilgrrl, I was posting to cryingshame's use of the word hypocrite...not
to you. Might want to look at that again, once the red haze subsides. I consider 3 threads started coming at the same subject to be a bit of a jig upon the dirt.

YOu would have a bit more credibility if you had stopped with your Clark interview thread...but you've gone on.

17. I've gone on because it seems that no one cares that...
he seemed to protect the Bush Crime Family at every turn with those questions to Clark, the incessant coverage of Monicagate (this is from a guy who's been married and divorced several times.) during Clinton's term.

Sorry, as far as I'm concerned he's contributed to the sorry state of journalism we suffer today by playing along with his corporate masters.

19. "seemed". Even you admit it was "seemed" to. I would hate to see you
in action against someone who actually could be proven to be guilty of something. Sometimes our need to defend our side colors our opinions of those who honestly try to report the news. If you actually look into the bio of Peter Jennings, you will see he was very much disgusted with the actions of the media in general.

Peter Jennings stood alone among Dan Rather and Tom Brokaw on the eve of the war...remaining unbiased, stepping away from the flag waving, war mongering, blood thirsty shouts. That's the thing I remember most about him.

8. Nice
I have to say you really turned me around on that issue, crying shame. Your brilliant logic and clear rhetoric have made me completely rethink my ways. My only fear is that the slight sorrow I feel at the death of another human being might have totally corrupted me.

5. Can you contain your anger to just one thread? This comes close
to spamming the board IMO. As for me, I am never glad to hear of any newsperson, person of note, celebrity, townsperson, neighbor, familymember's death. Sorry I can't help you there.

16. Seriously...
Same crap with the boyscouts.

A person died, as human beings we feel some grief and then move on.

Why some people are actually upset by this is beyond me.

12. is this all about that stupid question from that debate?
How about you focus on the fact he's reported every piece of news coming from Iraq that wasn't the most pleasant? How about you focus on the fact he refused to give any credence to the claims of the Swift Liars? How about not allowing his news program to do reports on the idiotic faux news stories like Laci Peterson when he was at the anchor desk? He was the most classy news anchor ever.

The people dancing on Peter Jennings's grave seem to believe that if one is a news anchor they're supposed to opine and editorialize instead of doing straight reporting on the facts as they have them.

10. Jennings never did anything professionally...
that requires forgiveness from us. The man was one of the last true television journalists. I lack facts in the Brinkley situation you're referring to, so I can't comment on your question otherwise, but I wonder why you seem to be trying to tear down a good man after his untimely death.

25. I'm with you on this...
I also have a tremendous amount of respect for a man with little/no formal education, that could seek out and obtain the extensive amount of knowledge that he did!

His death is a loss.

14. What is it that you want anyway?
Do you want some sort of Spit on Jennings thread? Do you want everyone to disavow him? Did Peter Jennings steal your favorite teddy bear when you were a kid or something?

I have no beef with Peter Jennings, and I was shocked and saddened to hear he had died. You, of course, are welcome to say whatever you want. But it's in very poor taste.

And FWIW, I laughed when Brinkley said it.

because, you see, I have a fuckin' sense of humor about our rulers, whether they're Democrat or Reep.

22. I had a family member who worked very closely with Jennings
for several years. He was an amazing man as far as I could tell, fiercely loyal to his people, and those closest to him were just like family. I didn't always agree with him, but I don't always agree with anybody, and Jennings at least was intelligent, compassionate, and more principled than just about anyone in the business today. We need more like him, but it doesn't look like we'll get them.

Forgive me for being offended by the unwarranted vitriol being directed against one of the last true giants of journalism. Are you going to piss on Rather's grave when he dies?

He stood up to the Bush Crime Family and sadly paid for it. At least he stands for something - a lot more than Brokaw and Jennings put together.

I hate to say anything negative about the dead, but I thought Peter Jennings was as right wing as mainstream TV dares to get.

26. I remember watching the Huntley-Brinkley report
almost every night as a kid. Together with Cronkite (and to a lesser extent Howard K. Smith), they basically defined the maturation of nightly tv news.

They used the second movement of Beethoven's Ninth as their theme music. Keith Olbermann uses an echo of it now as a signature on return from commercial breaks.

29. Um... don't remember having an Internet or message boards
when David Brinkley died.

What many pundits and, apparently many DUers tend to forget, is that one really cannot compare any political campaigns and news reporting to what happened in the past.

The Internet, blogs, message board, instant messaging on cell phones (those who have it) WI-FI - all changed the type and extend that news and information are being disseminated and the nature of grassroots and other mode of activism. Even cable 24 hours news.
