Something my father told me
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 08:06 PM by ck4829
I remember a long time ago.

It was a cozy time, it was friendlier, it was safer, and the average American was very intelligent.

And yes, Bill Clinton was the President.

I asked my father, "What's the difference between the Democratic and the Republican Party?"

He said "There's not really any difference between them."

How the times have changed.

5. I take comments like these
as a reference to the DLC attitudes that seem to infect entirely too many members of the Democratic Party.

And, as we know, the DLCers are half-republican, at least. They might not be religious wackos, but they're certainly corporate shills.

6. It needs to not be true.
But it is. The party machinery is the party machinery and the fuel is big money. (With all due deference to H. Dean)
We need to change it.

What if ordinary Joe thought he really COULD become president?
There's a radical idea!

7. Clive James, a former UK tak show host, said this:
"American politics is very similar to UK politics. There's the Republican party, which is a lot like our Conservative party. And there's the Democratic party, which is a lot like our Conservative party."

(He used to do a Letterman-style show called "Saturday Night Clive")
