Bush: "I like to be fit .... I like to drive myself, I like to work hard"

"I like to be fit," Bush said Saturday after leading a small peloton of journalists and aides on the rigorous Tour de Ranch. "My personality is such that I like to drive myself, I like to work hard."

By now, Bush's obsession with mountain biking, which replaced jogging when his knees said no more, is well-known. On Saturday's ride, Bush showed why, powered at age 59 by the heart of an endurance athlete, he may well be the most physically fit president in U.S. history.

"That's up for pundits and historian" to decide, Bush said when asked if he wants to claim the title as fittest president.

1. Obsession?
So, 5 or 6 Mt Bike rides in 5 years is obsession? He doesn't even have the nubs worn off the tires yet.

Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 10:50 AM by mcscajun
That flag Wasn't Photoshopped in? He really rides around trailing a flag on a pole?

:puke:

Not to mention, glurge-worthiness aside, it violates the US Flag Code. Not that THAT would ever bother George-Porgie.

The principle is: the flag leads - it does not follow.

(b) The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.

Of course, there's a cop-out clause for Georgie. You knew there was, didn't you?

Sec. 10. - Modification of rules and customs by President

Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in a proclamation.

Of course, he hasn't made one...Rules? We don't need no stinkin' Rules!

36. Thanks for the clarification...it'd be so bloody weird if he'd gone
over yet another cliff, metaphorically speaking.

Of course, you can see How I jumped to the conclusion. Riding around full-time trailing a flag Would Suit our flight-boy.

16. Everything he does is about himself
with no regard for anyone else.

Look how often he uses the words "I", "Me" and "My". It's never about anything or anyone else except himself. Not good qualities for someone who wants to be POTUS.

20. Gerald Ford was very fit
though he got the reputation as a klutz due to a fall caught on camera and Chevy Chase's impersonation.
Ford has the reputation as the most athletic president. He played college football.
Bush was a prep school cheerleader.
So. Ford might have the edge.

But, nice of the photographer to get that patriotic look for our Propagandist.

31. Big F##king Deal! What a crock of happy face "news".
I'm 59 and have a back that prevents me from running. So I ride my bike 3+ miles, 5 days a week. To say that I have "the heart of an endurance athlete" just makes me laugh.
HA HA, what a f##king twit!

33. AP is hero building with this one.
When they wrote that * has the heart of an endurance athlete, it should have been attributed to a source, like a doctor. Otherwise it is editorializing.

What are they learning in J school these days? NOT objectivity.

35. I will say one positive thing about Bush... (read on)
I will grant Mr. Bush one positive quality: He is definitely the most athletic President we've ever had. It must be nice having all that time to exercise, especially on his vacation time. His record amount of vacation time.

George W. Bush, the Edu^H^H^HVacation President.

Anyway, with all that free time, what's the problem with meeting with (moral) President Sheehan? She has no issue with physically embracing those with which she disagrees. In contrast, every Bush gathering or meeting is 100% sycophants.

Who's the real leader?

37. Idi Amin was also very into how much of an "athlete" he was supposed to be
"World's greatest" boxer, swimmer, etc.

In fairness to Amin, though, I think he would have cleaned Bush's clock pretty easily.
