The They-Chose-To-Live-There baloney
Who doesn't live near either some natural weather hazard or a man-made hazard? On the weather end, clean everyone out of Florida, and the west coast, and while we're at it, let's take everyone out of the tornado zones.
And don't forget the people living near bio-chemical dumps, hazardous waste burns, nuclear power plants, coal mines, etc.

I'm sure the people who are living in safe areas that never get bad weather and live far from pollution will be happy to share their property with the rest of us.

2. This argument only works for...
Edited on Wed Sep-07-05 06:43 AM by Qibing Zero
..the folks who built their million dollar homes out on remote barrier islands off the coast of Florida and expected them never to be hit by a hurricane, or fall prey to rising tides. Build on the fault line, will ya?

NOLA is a completely different situation.

3. Anyone hit by a tornado in the middle states
chose to live there.

Basically, we need to find one or two places where there are no floods, landslides, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, brush fires, etc., and then ALL move there.

4. Probably said by people who "chose to party there" at least once in their
lives - at their own convenience.

5. My father started that crap with me.
He yelled about NO being built below sea level, although that was done a couple of centuries before he was born. He blamed them for living there.

Then he started in on San Francisco, even though my brother lives there.

I asked him where he expected people to live. They have to live somewhere. It is not like we have lots of extra space anywhere.

He lives in Wisconsin. I should have asked him if he thinks it would be okay to take all the agricultural land and move San Franciscans and Louisianans onto it.

6. who chose
Blame the french.

for building a city below sea level.

And again, nobody is responsible. American politics have no balls,
nobody is responsible for preventing such disasters. Housing standards
for the poor are lower, and poor live proportionately closer to hazards,
as the economic price of land reflects as well.

Might the rescue effort godspeed, that the unrealized tragedy of race
equality in America be exposed.

8. Most of the people who were stranded...
... in New Orleans didn't chose to live in this country in the first place.
Their ancestors were stolen from their homes and brought here in chains.
