Knight Ridder Newspapers: GOP fearful that Bush will lead party to defeat

*Republicans unsure of Bush's chances for 2004 election*
by Ron Hutcheson and Steven Thomma,
Knight Ridder Newspapers
Oct. 3, 2003

<WASHINGTON - In a sharp reversal, Republicans who just months ago daydreamed about a 2004 election landslide now worry that President Bush is losing control of events at home and abroad and faces a real chance of leading the party to defeat.

At home, anxiety about the economy is escalating and respect for Bush is sinking. His domestic agenda has stalled in Congress.

Abroad, troubles in Iraq and Afghanistan have eroded Bush's traditional Republican advantage on foreign policy. His calls for international help in Iraq have gone unanswered. And in both countries, Americans continue to die in guerrilla attacks. >

2. Well, DUHHHH!
Ya' think, Repugs? :spank:

Hell yes, chimpy is leading you all to defeat. Unfortunately, he is driving the country over a fucking cliff at the same time. You all better get a clue real damn quick, impeach his ass along with Cheney and the rest of them or kiss your own ass goodbye!!!

3. draft mccain!
A couple of months ago I started up a site at <www.draftmccain.org> If anybody knows of how to spread word about this site to any of their republican friends, it couldn't hurt.

I'm hoping to at least stir up a little interest in somebody challenging the moron from the republican side.

8. thanks
is there anything the religious right can hate about McCain? My mom has a lot of church friends who wouldn't EVER vote democrat, and I wonder if McCain could be a real alternative for them.

I sent the link to her, by the way.

12. McCain = PNAC
There are connections between McCain and PNAC.

He was also nailed for influence pedling some years ago.

13. NO
Don't draft McCain for anything. He was one of the pushers for the $87 billion dollars to Iraq. Here in Arizona, just as elsewhere in this country we have schools that need funding, roads and bridges that
call for repair, and a power grid that needs to be updated.

Did any of this matter to McCain, no it did not. At this point in time
I wouldn't elect McCain for dog catcher.

10. Did ya see Porter Goss having a Captian Queeg-like..
breakdown after the KAY report was released? He was throwing a tantrum and insisting there were WMDs. It was pretty scary.

19. You could almost hear the ball bearings in his hand
Talking about a major case of denial. How about Bush's spin on Kay's report? He was spinning faster than the rotor blades of his helicopter!

Let's save ourselves the $600M that Kay wants, and let the UN inspectors return to Iraq.

6. Actually, Knight Ridder Newspapers are worried that Bush will lead...
party to defeat. My wife worked for one of their papers and the company is one of the biggest GOP shills out there. They will publish many more such articles in order to rally the faithful.

14. Look for McCain and Hagel in the GOP primaries....
Hagel is already positioning himself, and McCain, well, ...he's been waiting for this for a long time (ie: for Bush to fail badly, and then the GOP comes to him on their knees)... Interesting, that both have extensive military backrounds, ....just like possible Dem pick Wes Clark.

17. Could You Imagine A Scenario
Where a political party's figurehead occupying the White House is such a liability that rather than see him run for re-election, they dispose of him instead? At least he'd go as a martyr.

Too much like a political thriller, I suppose. Only Shakespeare could come up with a scenario like that and make it believable.
