...sort of like "Westwood" is in L.A.?

In other words, does the Mayor of N.O. have jurisdiction over Gretna?

6. Thanks. Maybe the first thing the Governor should do, is take away...
...Gretna's city charter and make it part of New Orleans, so that this doesn't happen again.

That Sheriff should be brought up on charges.

Plano or Garland for that matter. Think Houston and all points North.

Austin, what would be the South Side, I know the north would be north of 183.

"for the love of Christ, YES, separate city separate parish", Same town, same city. for the love of Christ!

Don't push it any further. I spent 2 years up and down all of the western half of Louisiana doing title searches on property for mortgages. Period.

10. Don't beat around the bush!
Tell us what you really think!

Come on cut 'em some slack. All the talk of different parishes is confusing to people that don't live in NO. Heck I've been down there numerous times and know where Gretna, Harvey, Slidell, etc are but have no idea what parish they're in. Thanks for the reminder about Sherriff Lee. I'd forgotten about that.

11. Excuse me, pitohui, but is Frog Hollow a town or a part of Hartford?
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 08:10 PM by Atman
Don't be so smug. You live in NO, so you should know the detials of its history.

There are a lot of cities in the United States, with a lot of neighborhoods and a lot of jurisdictions. Please forgive the DUers among us who haven't had to read up much on N.O. since high school. The question is legitimate, and many have asked it.

Oh, and there is a lot of history surrounding Frog Hollow. It ain't ancient history. The next person that asks me that..........

Lot's of Cities are like that. It's not like they are in different States. Sheesh! :eyes:

And nothing in the rules say's that you have to answer every question that you know the answer to.

26. We have that too
My little town is 7,000 people, there's another little unincorporated area across the bridge, separate. The two areas fight all the time. I get what you're saying. I also wondered what the deal was with that Lee guy, great credentials but no higher office didn't seem right. He's got his little area all staked out, right?

28. I remember Mayor Barthelemy knocking that wall down with a sledgehammer
Harry Lee tried to block off a road that connects Metairie (think David Dukkke) with the adjacent, mostly poor and black Hollygrove neighborhood of N.O. -- actually block it off with concrete highway barriers! "Sheriff Lee, tear down this wall!"

That's the same attitude we saw on the bridge -- the same attitude that helped get Greater New Orleans in the mess it was in even before the storm.

5. I think the Gretna Sheriff has a lot to answer for...
It seems like this particular force should be singled out for blame. I keep hearing about "Gretna forces blocade bridge" and "Gretna police will not allow outsiders in".

14. agreed the trouble is they're making the new orleans mayor answer for it
the blame on the internets is put on the very man who had told the ppl they could cross the bridge & had no power to stop the jeff parish officials from firing on them

i don't like seeing an innocent person blamed for the crimes of another

it don't sit right with me

blood is high right now

forgive my bad temper

but it just don't sit right

22. Gretna is a seperate city...
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 08:33 PM by MojoXN
A city whose Sheriff dept. evidently has a serious problem with people who are black AND poor. I wish that I could meet the assholes who banned N.O. survivors from coming into their city. I'd stick 'em in a small cube of a room, leave 'em for five days with no food or water, and then start rapidly pouring brackish water into said cube. And then I'd open a door to freedom, and have some asshole blocking the door with an M-16 saying, "We don't want no Superdomes on THIS side of your cube-room. Go back, NOW! Or else drowning will be the LEAST of your worries!"

I'm starting to become vengeful in my 'old' age. Jesus, I'm becoming akin to a Freep at a rapid rate. Oh well, fire with fire and all that jazz.

MojoXN

EDIT: FUCK YOU GRETNA, LOUISIANA!

27. No apologies necessary, I think most of us feel the same way...
...and thought that this kind of thinking ended in the 1960's and 70's.

Plus, Gretna is the first "City" I've ever heard of that had a Sheriff's Department. I always associate a Sheriff with the County (or Parrish) Law enforcement.

And if you want to talk about confusing Law enforcement, I have a choice here in Cobb County, Georgia, with a Marietta, Georgia mailing address between:

Marietta Police
Cobb County Police
Cobb County Sheriff
Cobb County Marshall
GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation)
and even
FBI
ATF
and the U.S. Marshal Service
And I don't even want to get into U.S. Immigration or
the U.S. Customs Service.

Wow, is this a Police State or what?
