I'm weary of the Katrina "blame game"
Everybody dropped the ball in the relief effort---FEMA,Bush,Blanco,and Nagin.

The real culprit in all of this was THE WEATHER and the fact that a city was built where a city shouldn't have been built.

God,what a country,we've turned into----- a bunch of finger pointers.

6. And what advantage is there to be gained by NOT pointing fingers?
and trying to figure out what went wrong so it doesn't happen again, pray tell?

"A city was built where a city shouldn't have been built"? Cities tend to get built near bodies of water for a reason. The Netherlands is also below sea level but does just fine with a state-of-the-art dike system. No reason New Orleans can't have the same, if the money is invested. If it's not, I'd like to see what other port city is going to do its job.

A whole lot of people dropped the ball on this one, but ultimately the feds had the charge to take control, early in the crisis, and they didn't, didn't, didn't. And people suffered and died because of it.

Nothing can change that. Not all the chiding in the world and trying to make shame on people as if there is something wrong with THEM for trying to make people feel bad about their failures. They SHOULD feel bad about their failures!

Oh, and by the way, this is not a GAME. It's serious. Deadly so.

8. YOU just blamed the people who built New Orleans.
So who's playing the blame game now?

It seems you simply don't like where some fingers are pointing.

But it's ok for you to blame the people who built that city, eh?

Some advice: put your fingers in your ears and sing "LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!!!" It might make you happier.

But please note: you did some blaming on actual people in your post, not just the weather.

9. You're kidding, right?
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 11:04 PM by libnnc
You do realize that if it weren't for MASSIVE budget cuts--made by the Bush administration--that New Orleans could have fixed its levee problems? You do realize that Sen. Landrieu et al have been screaming about those problems for YEARS on Capitol Hill and have been IGNORED by a Republican congress who wanted to put monies elsewhere? You do realize that the problems in New Orleans weren't caused so much by the hurricane itself but expressly by breaches in its levees--the ones the the Army Corp of Engineers have been wanting to fix were it not for the MASSIVE BUDGET CUTS ISSUED BY THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION?

You do realize that the "blame game" phrase is Rovian Bush-speak?

You do realize those things, right?

With power comes responsibility.

It seems they want the power and none of the responsibility.

That's just not the way it works. Some people will let you get away with it for a while, but as we've seen, eventually everyone has their point where they will say "ok, enough, this is bullshit."

Pretty fucking sick watching the federal government to deny lifesaving aide to dying people. It's pretty fucking sick to watch the federal government treat victims of a first natural, then man-made disaster as if they were an enemy army. It's pretty fucking sick to watch that happen. 24. I'm weary of the "Blame game" game...
particularly, people who use the phrase "blame game" to try to deflect attention from the fact that the administration that has made "KEEPING YOU SAFE" it's raison d'etre for the past four years took a fucking WEEK to figure out how to get food and water to tens of thousands of people in New Orleans.

Plenty of blame to go around? Yeah, so, how about the man at the top, the guy who feels content to trot out the threat of scary turban-wearin' turrusts every time he has a dip in the polls, TAKE some of that blame?

And as for "THE WEATHER" are you aware that temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico are higher than normal? Wanna take a guess as to why that might be? Think that could have anything to do with the fact that the polar ice caps are melting? Or that our scientifically illiterate government thinks the "jury is still out" on global warming just like it is on evolution?

And where was the National Guard? Are you telling me that you honestly believe the fact that our troops and resources are tied up in a bullshit war 8,000 miles away had nothing to do with the turtle's pace of response to this deal? Is there "plenty of blame to go around" for that, too? Fuck that noise- I protested that war before it started. I'm not taking the god-damn blame for that fiasco, and neither should you unless you think it was a good idea.

Bunch of finger pointers is right. The Bush Administration fucked up -and it's another in a five year SERIES of major fuckups- and they need. to. go. We had a two year, $87 million dollar fucking SPASM of blame over a god-damn blow job and a blue dress. Seems like everybody was extremely interested in doling out buckets of blame then, and they were perfectly content with having it go all the way to the top.

But now, with dead bodies floating through the streets of NOLA, god fucking forbid anyone should play the "blame game".

Ptoi. Feh.

And hurricanes are a fact of life on the Gulf Coast. It should have been better protected. For example--Federal funds for levee upkeep had not been cut to ribbons.

The actions of Nagin & Blanco may not have been 100% correct. But Bush & Co's inaction is an international scandal.

57. Wow, how did you manage to post 1000+ times?
Candy, seriously, here's the deal: "blame game" is pure right-wing spin; do you not see that? We're not talking about spilt milk here. A lot of people died, and a lot more suffered terribly because of gross incompetence. Not to mention the fact that New Orleans is extremely messed up when it didn't have to be. No one who's serious about this would suggest it's all one person or one agency or one government at fault. But clearly there's more to it than just the forces of nature.

People are not looking "blame", they're looking for accountability, and you know why? Because we'd really sort of like for this not happen again.

I hope that clears up your misunderstanding.

and Katrina desperately needs an autopsy. Just as 9-11 did. Our agencies don't work with each other. Our appointed leaders of the agencies don't have credentials and are quickly out of their depth. Our tax money is misspent.
So. Yes. We need a blame game.
We need accountability.
I thought you loved accountability.
Or is that only when it concerns other people?
