Did we ever find out more about Roberts role in the 2000 Selection?
For me, this is one of the biggest issues with Roberts in regards to his suitability to head the Supreme Court but I haven't heard much about it lately.

We do know that when it came up the back in August, that the story kept changing and we still never found out how much of a role he really did play.

One thing that I do know, is that I have a real problem with anyone who does not believe in counting every vote to the point that they are willing to give free legal advice to a political campaign on how to avoid doing such. Especially if that person is going to end up with a life time appointment has Chief Justice of the US.

Has this come up in the confirmation hearings and if it hasn't when will it be?

1. It won't come up
How often do the Dems in the Senate talk about this particular issue? I haven't heard anything about it in years. Secondly, it wouldn't stop his confirmation if he personally was shredding Gore votes. The public doesn't give a rat's ass about the 2000 election at all. Only the base of the Dem party cares about it any more (about 30%) not enough to sway overall public opinion against the guy enough that some Dem Senator takes the rsik associated with filibustering Roberts' appointment.

We need a stronger issue if Roberts is going to be stopped, and at this point it looks to me like this guy has been groomed for this appointment for approx 30 years and he knows exactly how to face his questioning and has spent his entire life hiding his true feelings on ths issues.

I find it quite telling that these conservative assholes hide their issue stances as much as they do. If they were really in step with mainstream America as they claim to be they would be proclaiming their issue stance loud and clear. Instead they hide from them. THIS is the real issue and it is why nNO nominee should be confirmed without a thorough vetting by the Senate.

2. Based on the overwhelming response to this thread
I am afraid you're right.

I just can't imagine 30 years of this guy has chief justice.

3. Here's what I can find in my bookmarks.
There was a flurry, then it either dropped totally off of the radar, or I missed anything further:

guess it's not as important as we think it should be. As someone noted at the time when the question of Roberts being paid for his role came up, 'He's being paid on the layaway plan.'.

so sick of all the bullshit. holding on by a thread here.

4. Thanks for the links
I also remember Jeb lying about Roberts' role in the selection. First he only met him once for 1/2 hour, to him spending a couple of days in Tallahassee, to him being the one actually wrote the legal briefs even though he didn't put his name on them all at his own expense. Seems his legal firm has gotten a heck of a lot of work from the state since then too.

5. Yep.
The threads noted in my post show an unfolding of the events including Jeb's memory failures.

For some reason, this just reminds me so much of Ashcroft's nomination, hearings and confirmation. Watching that, talking back to the television (what good that did - lol), firing off letters - and that wasn't a lifetime appt., just felt like it.

Seems like Roberts' FL2000 connection is just gonna be 'water under the bridge'.

8. I fear that with everyone so focused on the NOLA disaster
The are Dem leaders are going to fail us again.

Despite all the horror of the last two weeks, it's still business as usual in DC.
