TX:Priest sticks 15 kids with (unsterile) pin:"suffering a part of life"
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D8CLU5BO4.html

The Catholic Diocese of Austin is investigating after a priest called about 15 children to come forward during evening Mass so he could prick them with an unsterilized pin to demonstrate the pain Jesus suffered during crucifixion.

"What I was trying to teach them is that suffering is a part of life," said the Rev. Arthur Michalka, 78, on Friday.

"What were you thinking?" said Debbie Sybert, a Jarrell resident whose 11-year-old daughter, Amanda, was pricked during Mass. "Apparently our father has lost his mind." Sybert said the pinpoint drew Amanda's blood. But Michalka said none of the children bled.

Michalka said he plans to apologize in church this Sunday for not sterilizing the pin. "I didn't think it was that big a deal," Michalka said. "I can see the point now. I'll see to it that it doesn't happen again."

2. how did the whacko's
end up in charge? I don't necessarily point 2 this incident, this is symptom of whackiness, but it seems scarcely a day goes by w/o a report of yet another insanity - robber's son/chavez springs to mind - these people once were in the margins of society - where they belong. Will they ever go back there or has pandora's box been open too long?

3. When he says
"I'll see to it that it doesn't happen again". It seems to me he is saying, "I'll make sure the pin is sterilized next time".

Can you imagine Jesus saying to his disciples, "Suffer the little children to come unto me. I'm gonna stick them with a pin". :eyes:

5. Hey Fodda, it's "suffer the little children"
Not "make the little children suffer." Jeesh!

Why wasn't a demonstration of Christ's love deemed as appropriate. . .
as one of his suffering? Especially with children, let Christ's love be their motivation for accepting him into their hearts. They've plenty of years to learn about man's inhumanity and the pain even God's son endured. Give them thoughts of love to cherish as children, not images of hate to fear.

And this I say as a relative non-believer.

slapped several times with a ruler. I was walking and happened to have a straight pin in my hand..and this guys shirt was all puffed out..and I said I was going to 'pop' his shirt with my pin...I did...he screamed..I got 5 slaps on my open hand, by sister superior, with a WOODEN ruler..no plastic, flimsy rulers in those days. :silly:

On Edit..maybe that is HIM? He grew up, became a priest and now is getting his revenge? (I love my ego)

8. Teaching kids how to hurt other people. Sad.

Michalka, a simple lesson for you: suffering is a part of life because people keep pricking each other with "pins" of various kinds.

9. Those kids are gonna learn a lesson, all right -- that some adults
are sadistic assholes. And the church that supports these assholes won't do anything about it.

Lots of atheists were created today! Come, little brothers and sisters, learn a better way. I had a similar experience in church, and I left and never looked back.

10. The lesson learned . .
. . is that people who say they believe in nonsense - like ghosts and spirits who control the universe will eventually hurt you if they get the chance.

Hope the lesson worked as well as the cigarette my mother made me smoke at age five.
