The stupidest statement RUSH ever said
We are having many conversation over the responsibility of gov't vs personal responsibility........This says it all. Until we as Americans ALL understand there are somethings citizens can NOT do them selves we will have these problems. Whom rebuilt LA after the last earthquake, after the last SF earthquake, Florida after the 4 hurricanes. WE can not do this, OUR gov't must

quote........
I have heard radio's Rush Limbaugh say
that expecting the government to build levees is an example of a welfare
mentality.

end quote......

Can we PLEASE put this quote on our homepage!

He's definitely not as smart as he thinks he is. In many ways he is thoughtless.

3. I vote no - tho it IS a very stupid statement
I think Rush would get too much of a thrill knowing it was on our front page.

Thanks for adding more reasons for me to hate that man. Best book on him ever written was Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot". Those were simpler times, yes?

4. Governments are where the money is
Not popular to say, but it's true.

After 9/11, after the best private chairity relief fund-raising operation in US history, about 3 billion dollars was raised. That's great, and hats off to the American people for their generosity, but that's just a drop in the bucket for what was at least a 50 billion dollar disaster.

Maybe private chairities will raise 10 billion this time. Maybe, but even if they raise 20 billion, we're talking about a 200 billion dollar disaster here.

Governments are where the money is.

8. Even in the purest libertarian states
Levees are something that the government has to be in charge of. If they were "Private", you would have major problems with drainage and flooding. Building a levee on your land means that the water ends up somewhere else.

And because levees in Missouri can have an enormous impact on flooding in Tennessee, it has to be a Federal responsibility.

11. I agree that's pretty stupid
but Rush would have a problem surpassing himself for stupid statements, so I'm not sure this one has outdone many of his previous stupid statements.

Personally, I thought his notion that torture was 'just kids letting off steam' or 'just college hazing' was up there as not only stupid, that's too mild a word, but a glimpse into the dark, drug-addicted mind that has influenced so many dimwits over the past decade.

He makes me shudder, but even worse is the knowledge that he grew wealthy in this country spewing his hateful rhetoric. We have a very long way to go before we can claim to be a 'civilized' country. The popularity of these rightwing propagandists is proof of that.

13. Welfare Mentality??
Rush is such a blow-hole of useless comment. (Unless you figure in the entertainment value)

Where does he think our wonderfully corrupt Govt gets all of the money they overspend?

If anyone is taking advantage of welfare - it is the 350,000 or so Govt officials, Hundreds of Corporate tax thieves, we have on OUR payroll!

It is definitely time for a Revolution!!

14. So, the idea is...
Privatize everything, with little or no government oversight, because "the free market" will take care of shitty, irresponsible companies. Right? Is that what he's saying? He wants a libertarian government? Our tax dollars that go to maintain public structures like Bridges and levee's-- that's welfare? Firefighters, police, hell even me, a nurse paid by the government, we're all on welfare? Is that why they have such a hard time funding arts, and parks? Because it's welfare?
I'm not sure it's the stupidest thing he's said, there is so much to choose from, but he's parroting extreme rw nonsense. I never understand his shit. It never makes any sense at all.

22. Don't forget Congress,
the Senate and of course, the President and VP. Since we have to pay for his healthcare, thinking like Rush, we should not tolerate a sick VP. Right now he's in the hospital, lucky him, since many of us would just have to wait for an emergency. And who's money will pay for that? That's what I call Welfare.

To help pay for the reconstruction in the Gulf, I think we could start by taking Bush and Cheney off the healthcare welfare rolls. Then Congress. It's time for them to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and start paying for their own healthcare, like everyone else.

But as far as that quote, to me it's not stupid, just cruel and mean-spirited.

19. Everyone should jump on this, it is literal ammunition for the democrats.
It is an example of welfare mentality, the conservative welfare mentality.

Conservatives believe citizens are responsible for their own hardships. They don't need to blame anyone but themselves, big-goverment=a copout.

That's how these people work, and of course the neocons are a large step beyond that.

So jump on it....conservatives don't care about you: They say you can fend for yourselves, etc. Then show how government, liberal and so on can take care of crisis situations immediately. It doesn't depend on "approval" or not, and cares about everyone involved.

Explain how that situation is directly opposite of the GOP conservative agenda, and hit hard.

27. flush limpballs is just pushing his product. Why let logic and common
sense into a discussion when you can have rumor mongering, innuendo and vicious hyperbole. he's a toxic package designed to appeal to the worst in mob mentality. It's his job to tell his dittos how bad their lives are and then who to blame for it. the good news is that his product has reached saturation point and his ratings are falling in just about every market. He's no great mental giant. He's gotten so predictable that a well-read seventh grader could predict his shtick in advance on any given issue. And we know why he's such a shill for bushco*. They're the ones keeping his junkie ass out of prison.

I don't know if its the stupidest thing he ever said or not. It's plenty stupid, but then, he's plenty stupid.

Mostly I try to spend my reading time considering what intelligent people have to say.

I have little time for Rush Limbaugh, including searching for his crown jewel of stupidity.

Also, yes, we can do such things, and most of us are smart enough to realize that our government can be, in appropriate circumstances, an effective instrument with we we can do them.

It was great fun seeing that even his base is furious with him!

and to pay for the sheet plastic and duct tape for its construction, so I just don't see how anyone could expect them to pay for something as expensive as levies.

I mean, look at all the governments time and money that would waste.
