DeLay Rumor From Someone in the know locally:
September 28 - You can write this down somewhere: this is chicken feed. DeLay's problems with Ronnie Earle are minor in comparison to his problem with his connections to Jack Abramoff. This is only a fun little prelude. Write it down. Our Rogue Congressman is in for a much bigger ride than this.

1. Yeah, I think the abramoff/sleazy lobbyist stuff will ultimately be the
last nail in the coffin, but this is the first. bugman delay is so freakin' dirty that there will be a multitude of acqusations. Ronnie Earle's charges just get the ball rolling. I'm happy for anything.

What is a little $192K in the whole scheme of things?

What about his getting the FBI or CIA or DPS to hunt down the "Killer Ds"?

6. It might be good to have a federal and a state indictments against him
Just as sort of a backup in case things don't work out so well on the Texas end.

I would remind everyone here that the entire Texas political establishment is 100% pro-Bush.

21. This indictment is a BEAUTIFUL thing!
It pins the bug man down and immobilizes him while the feds move in for the kill. And, no one in a position to help will want to get anywhere near him during this time.
Hmmm...do you s'pose that disgruntled (possibly ex-) CIA agents had anything to do with this? It sure is their style.

23. Yeah. That's why Earle's scope was limited.
He only went for conspiracy, but I'm sure the Feds/DOJ's Abramoff investigation is going to lead to the bugman's doorstep. He'll likely be facing federal indictments.

25. I like this part ....
"In fact, the joke in Austin is that men usually don't have as many lawyers as Tom currently does unless they've killed their wives, have some strange guy living in their pool house, and plan on making a break for it in a Bronco. Honey, he's a one-man full employment act for trial lawyers.

There's at least one previously sealed indictment, and with conspiracy charges leveled last week, everybody figures there's more indictments to come."

DeLay Indictment May Be Overshadowed by Looming Abramoff Probe

Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Representative Tom DeLay, the highest-ranking U.S. House leader ever to face criminal charges, called his indictment yesterday ``one of the weakest, most baseless'' in American history. Even if he's right, bigger legal battles may lie ahead.

The larger legal challenge for DeLay may center on a task force led by the U.S. Justice Department that's investigating Jack Abramoff, the indicted lobbyist who boasted of his relationship with DeLay.

Even as DeLay faces the charge in Texas state court in connection with corporate donations that allegedly were used to help fund the Republican takeover of the state legislature in 2002, ``he is inevitably also going to be under investigation by federal prosecutors'' in the Abramoff matter, said Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, a Washington watchdog group that has criticized DeLay.

Delay, 58, who stepped down temporarily as House majority leader after being indicted, once called Abramoff ``one of my closest and dearest friends.'' He has traveled to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, an Abramoff client, on trips organized by Abramoff's law firm and has blocked efforts to apply U.S. minimum wage and labor laws to the commonwealth.

34. Yep, yep....yep yep
As I'm reading this thread I kept thinking "where did I just read/hear that Abramhoff is going to be exploding bombs under DeLay", etc. It WAS Bloomberg as cited above. Caught that several days ago before the actual indictment. Have to share something: was in a restaurant last night when I looked up, saw the roach's picture on TV, and the words "DeLay Indicted" underneath. I whooped outloud to husband and said loudly "and now it's time to nail Rove, too, just like this roach and Dr. Death Frist". Conversations stopped. And I saw many smiles.
