And liberals everywhere should use it. Work it into casual conversation. Every time I have said it to someone it really touches a nerve. And I have even heard some people say it on their own:

Why spend all this money on Iraq when we aren't doing anything for Americans, here at home?

It sounds isolationist, yes. But its effective. I really started noticing it in the immediate aftermath of Mission Accomplished. Bush would talk about "fixing up all the roads in Iraq, rebuilding the infrastructure and modernizing everything, making sure every citizen can eat and can live a good life, making sure that all Iraqis get free and quality education, and ensuring that every Iraqi has the health care they need."

Yeah, that's all well and good. But why not here?

How come when someone proposes doing that here, its "socialism" and will "cost too much", but when Bush puts forward the idea to spend billions of dollars to do this in Iraq nobody has a problem with it?

Why are we still spending billions in Iraq when we can't even support our own citizens in their time of need?

Why are we now cutting the very same services for Americans that Bush insists on providing to all Iraqis?

And, why are we asking only those who already have so little to sacrifice even more? Where are the calls to eliminate the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans?
