Maybe It's Just Me, But Silverspoon's Speech Sounded Like. . .
. . .it could have been written by binLaden.

Vague references to desiring an empire, and how we have to stop them now, and how they threaten our way of life and democracy, and blah, blah, blah.

If one replaces every mention of islamic radicalism (or islamofascism) with "the west" and every mention of "democracy" or "way of life" with "Islam", it sounds like binLaden could be the one giving the speech, with the U.S. as the "threat".

Of course, i haven't heard one commentator or editorial writer make that comparison. But, to me it's painfully obvious.

1. No, its not just you
I had to turn it off. I imagined the rest of the world watching/listening, knowing this was yet another terrorists rambling speech.

Everytime he or republicans accuse anyone of anything it is just exactly what they, the repubs, are doing.

3. two peas in a pod
I hadn't thought of it before, but what you said makes sense. Extremists usually sound more like each other than like moderates, that's for sure.

5. One of my biggest beef's with that speech
was his stupid "Islamic Empire" or whatever the hell it was.

I had been satirizing for quite a while about Bush doing this, taking his "Evil Empire" moment. He needed it. Rethugs see him as the second coming of Reagan, and he pretty much is. His administration is run the same way. Spend, spend, spend, money, money, money, "trickle down" economics, give money to the richest and most powerful, and then keep the public distracted with a combination of empty rhetoric and fear-mongering.

I cringed in embarrassment when I saw that douchebag say that. I was in public, and it dawned on me how embarrassed I was that he was (implicitly) speaking for me.

So then he goes on and says that they are seeing to create an Islamic empire from "Spain to the Middle east" or however the fuck he phrased it.

First off, I think the EU would have something to say about that...

And, secondly, he is trying to do the exact same thing. He is trying to spread his twisted take on Christianity to create a theocratic empire, set up based on the talibornagain philosophies of Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell.

He says the terrorists are enemies to Islam? True. Very true.

And he is an enemy to Christianity.

The only difference between Bush loyalists and the Taliban is the religion they exploit.

8. Spain To Indonesia!
I'm sure the Hindu and Buddhist folks will have some objections. ANd, since there's about 2 billion of them, that could make it tough. How about you?

But of course, Silverspoon isn't big on specifics.

10. I could have delivered the same message in many less words:
Thank you. I appreciate all my neocon buddies.
Remember Sept. 11? That's why we're in Iraq.
Islamic militants are killing people.
We are killing Islamic people, but I don't think that's why they want to kill us.
Islamic fundamentalists are the same as communists.
Terrorism = Communism.
We kill 'em there, so we don't have to show America why.
If we don't kill them, WMD's will kill us all.
We will associate many sovereign Islamic countries with terrorism.
We aren't stopping any time soon.
Freedom = Slavery. Get used to it.
We really like our buddies who we put in power over there.
And we're making sure the Islamic people know they have to like them, too.
I really like most Muslims.
Oh yeah, and Freedom = Slavery, in case you forgot.

12. Yes, but then all the important subtle nuances are missed :) You know,
the ones that really show the motives?

13. You Think They Want Us To KNOW The Motives
Don't they really want the people to KNOW NOT AT ALL what they're doing?

Besides i think you made a mistake: You said "subtle nuances". From Silverspoon?!?!?!? You didn't really mean to say that, did you?

14. LOL. True, but bushie didn't write that drivel, although you're right,
no part of his delivery is subtle or could be described as thoughtful. There is the coke-jaw nuance, though.

And yes, my point was that they definitely don't want to us to know the true motives, so you have to sift through the fluff to find it. It's a little more complex than America good, enemy bad, let's kill 'em. But, granted, it's not much more complex...

19. Nobody could possibly be happier both with everything Smirk does ...
... and everything Smirk says than Osama bin Laden. Did Osama want to show the world how the U.S., contrary to its pretensions, tortures prisoners? Smirk delivers. Did Osama want to show the world how the U.S., contrary to its pretensions, kills innocent civilians? Smirk delivers. Did Osama want to show the world how the U.S., contrary to its pretensions, uses its foreign policy and military to enrich its global corporatists at the cost of poor Muslims? Smirk delivers. Osama names it. Smirk delivers. The U.S. is hated in the Middle East more than ever in its history.
