Hurricane VInce.....the experts are puzzled...
OK, this is definitely a weird storm. First of all, it's ridiculous that we're up to a "V" storm in early October. Second of all, Vince formed in a very unusual location--off the coast of Portugal--and in a region where water temperatures are only about 24 C.

2. Well with a name like Vince...which is the same name as
the legendary former President of the ASUYDs...it was bound to be a little odd. Has it been drinking all the beer?

5. Not just water temperatures....
...but upper air characteristics. Although rare, hurricane force winds have been known in Europe (there have even been two named storms, Martin and Luthar I think).

Incidentally, collapse of the eye-wall and shearing is already beginning and it will probably reach Iberia as a tropical storm before it gets absorbed by a cold front.

7. From Wikipedia
"However, two powerful extratropical cyclones that ravaged France, Germany, and the United Kingdom in December 1999, "Lothar" and "Martin", were named due to their unexpected power (equivalent to a category 1 or 2 hurricane)."

8. Oh, Martin Lothar. Not quite the same bang.
Still, it's funny.
