Well they dusted off the Louis Freeh book just in time.
I don't think it's gonna work this time though.

The pResident has been in office for 5 years now. People aren't thinking about Clinton anymore. The excuse is getting old to everyone except the diehard, talking point conservatives.

They are turning out to be a one trick pony.

1. bush is a total screw up, but I guess that's Clinton's fault......
louis freeh is a wimpy screw up, but I guess that's also Clinton's fault. repubs are good at screwing up and the blame game but sure don't know how to accept responsibility or accountability.

3. I don't think the book will go far. For heaven sakes Clinton
has been out of office for 5 years. At what point do you start focusing the spotlight on the people who have been in power for the past 35 years? The Repugs have held the Presidency 25 out of the last 37 years, while the Dems have only held the office for 12 years. The Repugs have controlled the Congress for the past 12 years.

The only real "juicy" item all the pundits are highlighting is that Clinton didn't ask the Saudi Prince to release to the USA the suspects in the Khobar Towers' bombing. That's not going to resonate for very long.

4. Some posted this in another thread...

5. Freeh's odd timing
Apparently former FBI director Louis Freeh is preparing for a return to the limelight by, like too many '90s-era Republicans, writing a book trashing Bill Clinton.

Louis Freeh, the FBI director appointed by President Clinton, says his relationship with his boss fell apart because Clinton's "closets were full of skeletons." <…> Freeh discussed the bad blood with Clinton in an interview to be aired Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes."

"We were preoccupied in eight years with multiple investigations," Freeh said in the interview, according to excerpts released Thursday.

In the book, according to CBS, Freeh writes: "The problem was with Bill Clinton the scandals and the rumored scandals, the incubating ones and the dying ones never ended. Whatever moral compass the president was consulting was leading him in the wrong direction. His closets were full of skeletons just waiting to burst out."

It seems to me there any number of ways to go about responding to Freeh's claims. First, you could point out that Freeh is a partisan Republican, who donated nearly $20,000 to the GOP, including Bush, in the last campaign. Second, you could note that in many instances, Freeh just doesn't know what he's talking about. Third, you might take note of the fact that, by Freeh's own argument, he let a sex scandal distract him from real law enforcement work. Fourth, you could take note of the fact that Freeh was helplessly, almost shockingly, incompetent at the FBI, which brings some of his criticisms into question now.

6. Louie's Timing Sucks...
He probably had this deal with Regenery in hand since he walked from the FBI and thought he could parlay his name and "story" in the punditry world and cash in like others.

For some like Richard Clarke and Paul O'Neill who were contemporary and had something to offer, people wanted to hear what they had to say. Freeh is yesterday's news two weeks ago. He's been gone from this regime for several years...not only do few people remember him, but his role when he served would be less than stellar considering all the FBI screw-ups that led to 9/11 that happened directly under his command. Ooops.

Freeh knew he would have to cater to the wingnuts...many Democrats never trusted his going back to his never-ending sniping with Janet Reno and how he was too anxious to work with Ken Starr's little witch hunts.

The dude's cashing in, but he sure won't hit the jackpot he is hoping for. Right wing hate books...especially the Clinton-hate variety...haven't been selling well for years. But I guess better late than ever. With the way the wheels are coming off for this regime, Clinton nostalgia is starting to come into vogue.

7. he's an odd duck
and I still think he was involved in some kind of cover-up of TWA Flight 800, the plane that blew up near Long Island in'96. A dear friend of mine's sister was on that plane and her family never got any straight answers from the FBI on the disaster.
