It's a good thing to recognize, I heartily agree.
As for "Last question: How do you forgive a traitor to your country?"
In my mind, it's easier to forgive the mostly just deluded populace by also feeling sorry for them - and as for the traitorous leaders, I worry not at all about forgiving them. The populace following them have been sold out more than the rest of us, and, many of their ideals are going to be lost in the shuffle, thrown out with the bath water, and there isn't much they can do about it. Short of the real and second coming, complete with a introduction by God, bibliography and endorsement by Mother Nature, there isn't a darn thing they can do to prove they were "right". Christianity? Homosexuality? Womens rights to abortion sacrificed for microscopic "life at conception"? Family values? From wagers of war? No, it's all going to fall apart, is falling apart.
I've been saying for a few years now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, that what has happened our nation politically, what they all wanted to happen, with complete Republcan control and more "Christian Values" in public life, is going to be a bitter pill. It's going to be a lot of guilt, for those many that realize, finally realize, what monsters they supported, and what they allowed to be done in OUR name, by people that weren't even really Christian in the first place. When these people understand they let liars take over our country for greed, and they believed it all. Bush supporters will know they were/are fools.
It will be a measure of our national integrity as to how many still have enough honestly left in them (do you think they remember the word?) to come out and say so. Maybe even join the ethical side of the fight.
Atonement people, I say atonement is the only thing that will set you free, those of you that finally "get it".
Then again, there will be some for whom forgiveness is almost impossible, because they will not admit to having done wrong, and do not care that so many other people think they have. Those types, honestly, I'm not going to waste my time thinking about. They'll be the least prepared for the troubles we're facing, and in all reality, there won't be as many of them later, due to their own foolish refusal to see the impending danger.
Look at them as an endangered species, the neocon hold-outs.
